What is the best resolution for uploaded photos?

    The photos that I upload look much less sharp than they should. Is there an ideal resolution?

    Native resolution for most monitors is 72 or 96dpi, though it's best if the source images are 300dpi. When I'm posting photos here, I knock them down to something like 600-800 pixels wide @ 72dpi. Anything bigger seems excessive.

    I do as Fearnot listed above as well. 640X480 is the first size that pops in my photo software, that makes it quick and easy for me. Keep in mind the software also distorts the final image at the website level. That goes for pretty much all social media sites.
