When you buy a guitar, you're not just buying a functional piece of musical equipment. Even if the guitar is new, there's usually some history of people using a guitar of the same design - and you want to be a part of it. You see the photo of the guy you admire playing it on stage and you say to yourself "I want THAT" … meaning not just the guitar, but the lifestyle and everything that goes along with it. By purchasing the guitar, you're elevating your own life... coming closer to what you want to become. "Mojo" is the magic element that you're buying. It's hyperbole... not a misuse of the term at all.

Mojo, to me, is a form of magic. Be it a talisman, positive (or negative) vibe or wish, or an indescribable feeling or presence (again good or bad). I remember some of my dad's relatives that lived in the Mississippi delta use it as a youngish child.

When I was in high school (‘68, ‘69, ‘70) I remember a kid that had moved from Louisiana. He had all types of charms, gri gri bags, and other mystical things. Fascinating dude that would tell stories of bayou life and the magic (often called mojo) that was there

If I send mojo to you it’s means positive thoughts, healing/recovery thoughts. Mad mojo can create bad karma.

Or it could be when our fiend Dale is missing her DIL (Maureen but goes my Mo) and son (Joe) she’s lost her mojo. A phone call or the biannual get together and she’s got her mojo back.

    I could use some mojo.

I bought a new speaker that I feel is too bright and harsh. I decided to try breaking it in by playing hours of loud recorded music through it.

I would like the speaker to possess some mojo so I chose musicians that I thought might help with that. Muddy Waters, of course, Dr. John, Tab Benoit, John Lee Hooker, Louis Armstrong and some Hendrix for good measure.

Any suggestions for more artists with mojo would be appreciated.

If it works like think it will I hope that it throws in a little Juju as an added bonus.

Kind of a relative scale. You don't hear the other 2 often because pplz don't like to admit it.

    e.g.

    1. lessjo
    2. somejo
    3. mojo

Mojo is used in so many ways now that it has lost all real meaning. It originally meant something had magical properties. For a guitar to have demonstrable magic properties anyone could just pick up a magical Strat, mumble the need mojo incantation and play just like SRV. I don't think any guitar really has mojo, it's just a sales gimmick, one nerd used on another who really wants to believe. If someone can prove a guitar has mojo, I'll take the Tommy Emmanuel model. ( I have a Tommy Emmanuel pick, but it is definitely is lacking in mojo) (but it's a very good pick)

Lately mojo means someone took a file to the upper bout and the backside near the neck plate but oddly left the neck and headstock untouched.

So what you are all saying is that if our usual guitars are horses and donkeys, a guitar with mojo is an unicorn which lives only in fairy tales? :p

Mostly it means I'm trying to sell some beat-to-s*%& guitar that probably stinks like somebody else's body fluids.

Mojo. Emotional magnetism. It’s what draws you in. Mojo ends in an “o”. Not an “a”. It’s one of the few English language words with gender. Masculine. Whether it’s a human or a thing that’s got it.

For many years I thought some guitars had mojo and some didn't. Ended up it was just a guitar with a good setup - which I wasn't aware of until the mid '90s.

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. As one other poster replied "je ne sais quois".
