Ok, so i made another thread which brought up some interesting comments on soul mixed to country music, the discussion gave me an idea for this "game" thread.

    Rules :

    - Post 1 video/tune of what to you is "Country Music".
    - Explain shortly why you consider it "Country Music"

I know this is a long shot, and there are many sub branches of this genre but bare with me, i' really love to see the responses and where this will be going, the benefit would be (hopefully) a great discussion and some cool music for everyone to listen to.

I will not post a video, I'm way far from being a genre "knower" or "expert", so i think it will be pointless.

Cheers ! ( hope you like this thing )

(I'm Drinking' Doubles")I played several of Gary's tune back in the mid-late "60's. Liked his style and sound (I like Jerry Lee Lewis so....)

Mark Chestnutt isn't a pretty man. He's just a dude with some domestic issues, that'll presumably be resolved sometime soon. He'd rather do some normal dude things like fishing or golfing, so he's just hangin' out at the bar. There's a touch of nostalgia and longing for a time long ago.

It's not specifically about drinking or getting drunk...it's not preaching about what kind of truck you have to drive...it's not about pretty twentysomethings partying...and nowhere in the song does Mark mention how "country" he is.

Was one of my Grandmother's favorites and he was what country was to me growing up. Pity country lost it's way.

Classic song with a lot of imagery of a humble life. Just feels like being around a warm fire with your family.

country musicians respect their elder musicians and musical traditions

this song was written recently by a guy in Brooklyn who obviously loves the twin fiddle sound from Bob Wills, the shuffles of Ray Price and his band, and the Bakersfield sound

    country music loves its musicians

    or used to

I don't know if anything gets more country than this......

Maybe Vince Gill's song "How Can I Kiss The Lips At Night That Chew My A$$ Out All Day Long?"........

This song has it all; bluesy honky-tonk heartache.

I think Hank Williams sums up country music. Conflicted and complicated soul, problems with alcohol and infidelity and trying to get his' life right.

Anything by Hank Williams Sr. To me that's where it starts. I want a swing feel in the music and simple lyrics with wit.

This is americana not country, with no ties to country music. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" doesn't make it genuine. Country music era is over.

There are some really good artists coming out, but most really fall into the Americana category. There was a tiny bit of country left in the red dirt scene, but that is vanishing aswell.

But Luke Bryan, Jason Alden, Scott borchetta, big machine, Taylor Swift, the internet, Facebook, killed country music.

Nowadays you hear a lot of rock and blues guitar riffs or distortion going on in what is called "country" music now. Somehow, it just doesn't gel.
