I've heard the same said of bagpipes, which is perhaps more appropriate.

I will wade into the fray. Firstly, a gentleman is one who knows the appropriate response to almost any social situation. Secondly, a gentleman should conduct himself in an honorable manner.

I was always taught that a proper gentleman removes the dishes from the kitchen sink before he pees in it.

A gentleman is someone who actually took his Boy Scout training to heart and kept it there, even after he became a grown man

A gentleman is one whose conduct proceeds from good will and whose self control is equal to all emergencies; who
does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority; who
is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast
of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed
follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own.

I was a Cub Scout, and later, a Boy Scout.
I did not attain any particular ranking or collect many merit badges, but I definitely still observe the credo, “Be prepared”.
I apply it to my work.
I don’t apply it to every aspect of my life, but I am prepared for the failure of my music gear, and my bandmate’s gear.
My parents taught me consideration of others.
    They insisted on it.
I honor them by adhering to their example.

It's quite sad that high-profile role models of this ilk are a vanishing species ... our society seems to have migrated to worship something else. :(
