to make a left turn instead of waiting behind the crosswalk till it is clear? How much fuel and time would be saved in America? And what would be the results to you and everyone else, if everybody used their turn signals?

The obvious answer to the worlds problems is the Roundabout! Because the same idiots that cannot yield to the person on their right at a stop sign will naturally want to yield to the person on their left in a logical and flowing fashion :lol:

I hate those roundabouts. Drove me nuts in Massachusetts.

Talk about extra tire wear and slowing traffic down.

roundabouts eliminate the problem of left turns across traffic and head-on collisions at intersections. Very few accidents occur at the roundabouts where I live. They may indeed slow traffic down somewhat - but I think that is an advantage, not a disadvantage. I'm not even sure if it is a fact - stopping for red lights may slow down traffic more than slowing for roundabouts.

I grew up with a traffic square (circle in roundabout speak) in my town, the next town, and the next town after that. I don't remember any accidents in any of them. I sure there would've been some, but it would've been few. The circles offered traffic around the edges and additional business in town (the "town square").

I could never figure out as a kid why so many people had trouble with them. Then, I noticed when I moved away, they don't seem to be in many other places (except poor-man's squares where one-way traffic can go left or right around something in the middle of the road and meet up on the other side of the obstruction, etc.

So you think gas would be saved by running over pedestrians

Another vote for roundabouts, where appropriate.

Where are pedestrians involved? And what difference would it matter to them? They can't be walking in the cross walk you initially cross and you have to watch for pedestrians either way as you make your left.

Roundabouts won't work at major intersection, BWAAAA I stuck my foot in my mouth as I just thought of France. But major intersections, I don't see the value, only a hindrance in heavy traffic intersections.

50% of American drivers couldn't negotiate a roundabout if their lives depended upon it, and they should be (accordingly) spayed and neutered for the good of all mankind.

Don’t know how common these are, but besides roundabouts, here in MI we have the U-turn left turn intersection. It works.

I love roundabouts and merging into traffic and just pulling into fast traffic itself ! My ADD just slows everything w-a-y d-o-w-n and I can see cars grouped together as blobs or shapes with the spaces between . Piece of cake.

Yeah - big truth on most Americans and roundabouts though. Completely clueless !:lol::lol:

Actually, it doesn't matter whether you have stop lights, stop signs, roundabouts, or whatever.....people are idiots and won't follow laws/common sense/common courtesy regardless. Not me, of course. ;)

Wanna see statistics in the U.S. for roundabouts versus regular intersections?

Of course not. We just want to give our opinions.

Look up the MUTCD and see what they have to say about roundabouts.

In Florida, we have u-turn allowed for EVERY far left turning lane.

Of course, you got your accidents, but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
