Him and Malcom did have one for backup in the early years... Wondered how they sounded on it... I bet pretty awesome.
It would not have changed the sound of AC/DC much at all. Playing technique and amplification contributes more to the tone that the guitar does. Not a lot of people realize it, but Angus played quite clean, even on his searing leads.
Could have been such a different story IF...
Somebody make him stop..................pleeeeeease
That's what made their tone so unique. And likely made them all lose a lot of their hearing... lol
This is it! They cranked the amp's volume, giving that really sweet natural compression, and Angus had a really light touch so his dynamics were on point. Malcolm's precise and percussive style shines through all over the place. Malcolm wrote the songs and Angus could follow anything. Still would love to hear either of them through some different gear!
Despite being one of the biggest bands ever, they are maybe the most underrated if you look past most of what gets played on the radio (their setlist for the last 30 years...)
Anyway, I digress...
I always thought they had a single coil guitar sound in the early days anyway. I know it wasn't, but it sounded like it.
Probably due to production. Once Mutt Lange got ahold of them, it all changed.
I remember reading an interview with the brothers back in the 90s where one of them (I think Angus) said they prefer to be almost clean, but that the producers always insisted they dirty it up a bit!
I do think it would be a very different vibe if Angus played a Tele. They just aren't as muscular sounding as an SG.
Im not so sure about that. Robby Krieger doesn't generally sound "muscular" either.......
Just think how anemic he'd sound playing a Tele!
Ha, thats true!
Thankfully he chose an SG, for entertainment purposes. It would have changed his stage appearance. If he played a tele he would be standing straght up and not moving anywhere. He is bent over and duck walking because he is chasing the neck dip. Now you know.
Perhaps that could be addressed by a pair of well-placed humbuckers? LOL!
What he would sound like on a Tele with slide. Lol
when we cover ac/dc - its what I use, good tool to approximate his sound
