I think it's the blast furnaces that fuel the eternal flames of hell.

Actually, the reality is that no one knows. Hard for people to swallow that I guess. Quite simply, no one's been down there. Just like no one has been to Mars or the Moon.

Eventually everything will radioactively stabilize, all latent heat will have escaped form the core, etc., and tectonic activity will cease since nothing will be driving it any longer.

I've read projected that once that happens, all land masses will ultimately be weathered down to an average elevation of a few feet above sea level within a ridiculously short span of time (geologically speaking). Now, that is amazing.

my guess is that it's some kind of intense argument between subatomic particles about who gets to take out the mass

I think it's static electricity caused by all the little creatures running around bare hoofed and footed.

There is no "belief" in science. It is a dynamic development of understanding from research.

The Earth creates it's own magnetic field from the liquid outer core of fluids flowing around the solid inner core. This has been well established as we have come to understand the different types of celestial bodies in the universe. It is pretty much our understanding of physics, that lets us develop and test certain attributes that our earth has. We are very close to verifying most of the theories with new equipment that can make the measurements deep within the Earth's crust. Not much expected except verification and finalizing our calculations. Our intense exploration through astronomy over the past half century and our use, testing and verification of nuclear particles through quantum mechanics has established a fairly accurate understanding of these fields of science. There are still unknowns that need to be explored further as part of the dynamics of science research.

No - he wasn't playing anything. He just cadged a shilling from me for the meter.

I'm more interested in how the surface stays cool with all that under-floor heating plus a nuclear reactor from outside.

We are 6,371 km from the center of the earth and 100 km from outer space. I hear it’s cold out there.
