Bought a First Act guitar on Marketplace for $26. Body was ply, it'll make a template. Neck was what I needed and it's a keeper.
Also got a Mahogany Thinline Tele body(needs a top cap) for $45.

Ouch! It does look like an easy fix.

cashed in some D'Addario points to try their 'expensive' strings. I remember getting a set during the beta - they felt 'big', still do. I'll see if they really do last longer and hold up better than their EXL brand.

Yesterday I bought off Amazon a set of cheapo regular 8/20 bronze Martin 12s for my smaller-sized acoustic after experimenting with a set of Diaddario acoustic nickel 11s that I picked up on a whim at the music store. The dang store had hardly any other options on the rack! I figured—“Hey, I am an experienced player, so there’s no reason I can’t make these sound cool.” Well— nope. The nickels sounded atrocious. I mean almost unbelievably horrible. Despite their costing like $12, I mercilessly cut them off right down the middle within minutes. Saved five inches or so of the big E refuse for a poker, though. 😂😂 Lesson learned. I do love Daddario, though, and have used them for my electrics since forever. On this little acoustic I like the more indulgent SE strain that Martin makes, but the $5.50 cheapos at halfish the cheddar are as good as any, and a better deal. So what if they go dead after a couple weeks of consistent playing? They sound right and cost about as much as a pack of cigs!! I prefer 13s on a dreadnought, but don’t have one nowadays.

I have almost bought one about a million times. Hope it works out for you. I bet it will!
Hey HootOwl, amp came this morning. QA seems very good. I replaced the no-name tubes with a pair of JJs. The amp had a slight hum when you dime the volume & tone control without a guitar plugged in (hum, not hissing - hissing is okay). On the circuit board there is a variable resistor to adjust hum balance. It's a very fine adjustment. I had to back off the variable resistor about 5 degrees and the hum is 99% gone. This adjustment should be done every time you change the brand of tubes. Some do it every 3 months or so.

Overall the board and solder look very nice. The tolex is nicely applied. The amp is replacing my Vox Pathfinder 10 which I sold today.

Should you buy one? -- if you don't have a tube amp, sure. I bought it from Amazon in case I got a dud -- from my experience, they they are great about exchanges and refunds.

Cool! Glad it’s working out so far! I have a Vox Pathfinder 15r that I love, but it needs servicing after a major volume drop that came out of nowhere a couple years ago. What a super-sounding cheapo SS amp!! Still on my to-do list to get it all healed up as long as the repair price is reasonable! Much luck with that Monoprice or whatever the brand name is on your new tube amp. I think they are sharp-looking little units!

A black working Volcano Rock-A-Teer P-bass clone with maple fretboard, for 35 euros.
And a set of Kluson nickel tuners with Grover style knobs for my Yamaha FG420/12 that I am converting to 6 string, due to deformation of the top.

Yesterday afternoon. Big, blonde, Jay Turser hollow body archtop from a pawn shop. Needs a little cleanup and a set of strings. But not too shabby for $250 OTD, eh?

And here it is today after a cleanup and new strings. I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet, that will have to wait until tomt morning.

It probably needs to have the neck 'tweaked' by someone who knows what they're doing, the strings beyond the fifth fret are a little too high, and the bridge adjusters are already to their lowest setting.

I've had several Jay Turser archtops before, but it's been a decade or so, and I didn't remember how narrow these things are at the nut. It's not the easiest guitar for me to hit a clean C major on without 'muffing' a couple strings in the process. I may just put it in an open tuning where I can get away with a lot of two and three finger formations.
