Plenty of famous bass players used Danos.

Garry Tallent of the E-street band for example.

Jack Bruce just after ditching his Fender and just prior to him picking up his Gibson.

    John Entwistle

Note also Pete Townshend also brandishing a Dano

And it was seeing and HEARING Entwistle using a Dano during their Dutch tour that a young Rinus Gerritsen piped up and went "THAT'S THE SOUND!" Gerritsen is the bass player for the band who would later tour with The Who and Jimi Hendrix and proved themselves to be equals to those legends. The name of that band: Golden Earring.

Note also that that typical Dano twang just dominates that song.

Oh wow, I had no idea. Just read up about it.

I was roommates with his bass player for several years.

    Nice guy. A shame.

The current guitarist for Iron Butterfly used a Squier when I saw them a week 1/2 ago.

Zita Swoon front man Stef Kamil Carlens has an affinity for playing Epiphones, Eastwood and even those all plastic Mahalo branded guitalele models.

Carlens with his Epi firebird (Identifiable by the fact that it doesn't have Banjo tuners)

I've seen Cream , Hendrix , The Stones, Yardbirds, Eagles, Clapton on his own, Jeff Beck, Marty Stuart , Steve Morse, E J, Vince Gil, Brent Mason, Ray Flacke, BB, Joe Walsh, all sorts thru the years, even Leslie West, Mountain !

sadly, they were all playing very identifiable guitars with the formal name badge.

I have no clue who plays " off brands or starter guitars " on the big stage. I'm wondering why or "IF" a proficient player would even attempt playing a guitar on stage that was not SETUP to their own preferences anyway regardless of it's pedigree.

    Even Bruce doesn't ! I think...

I think that a lot of the bands in the sixties, both American and British, who had singles on the charts were using budget guitars. Not even budget Fenders and Gibsons, but budget brands.
