Thick books about Porsches, and more than a few Lego and Hot Wheels of same. Nerd-edition albums/re-releases for a few bands. Tchotchkes and action figures from movies/shows. Books on photography as art, artist monographs. Also 'meaningless' rando items that remind me of big moments in my life, like the AN cap that let go from a 3,000psi O2 tank and nearly kilt me.

How is it possible, given the rampant geezerdom here, that no one has said social security? Or was that implied by these answers:

I had a small collection of vacuum cleaners a long time ago, but it was collecting dust......

I do, however, still have a nice collection of vintage Nippon china:

Indie comics, indie vinyl, golden age sci-fi books. I used to have a giant VHS and DVD collection but I got rid of those last year and don’t regret it at all.

30 years ago I started collecting guitar picks from my favorite guitar players. Now it seems a bazillion other people had the same idea.

    Vinyl siding?

    Vinyl seat covers?

    Vinyl garments?

Sorry it’s not you, I’m just a curmudgeon that hates the term “vinyl”

    It’s a “record” dang it!

When I was in elementary school 25 years ago or so now I had a music teacher that had a darth Vader helmet

I always thought it was the coolest thing and wanted one

When I was a kid they came out with a vhs box set of Star Wars and I wore those bad boys out (the original films, this was pre phantom)

I was disappointed when the new movies came out

There’s only THREE real Star Wars movies!

I guess I collect musical instruments. I have a few guitars but I also have:
    a mandolin
    a violin (my grandfather's fiddle)
a bodhran and a couple of tin whistles I bought in Ireland.
    a melodian
    a few harmonicas
a sampling keyboard from the 80s
various shakers, rattles and small percussion things
    an accordion
    a flute
    wood and plastic recorders
    various whistles
I'm sure I have more that haven't been unpacked since a recent move that I have forgotten.

edit: I am proficient in none of these.

Coins. Not valuable ones, rare ones, etc. Just the change in my pockets at the end of the day. It gets thrown into this box, that box, a drawer, whatever. I've probably got a hundred pounds of the stuff now. Maybe I'll count it, roll it, take it to one of those machines that sorts it and spits out a gift card. Probably could get one of the Epiphone LPs I've been eyeballing.

Oh, yeah, I also collect obsolete computer and network cables. Serial, parallel, ribbon, coax, etc. Boxes of it. One day, it will be worth thousands. I just know it.
