A splash of olive oil, splash of red vinegar, fresh ground black pepper. MM-mm.

For commercial, Newman's or Ken's, Greek or vinagraette (sp) .... occasionally a good nasty bleu cheese.

In my part of the world we don't sit down to eat without a bottle of olive oil on the table. We have salad on the side with most meals in summer so it doesn't need to be too exciting, just fresh and good.

There's a prison joke in that title of yours...

Keeping it on topic though, I like a good vinaigrette on salads.

When I get out my jar of Kirkland Artichoke Hearts to put some in my salad I add a tablespoon of marinade from the jar as dressing.

    it depends on the salad

for stuff out of the garden, just sunflower oil, lemon, and salt

the key salad ingredient for me is hard-boiled egg

I don't know where Kelnet went, I think where ever he went he took Mike Eskimo and a bunch of other people with him. I'm thinking they might have rented a bus caravan, 'cause there's sure a bunch of 'em gone.

Be very careful. If you're using raw garlic in oil, it should be refrigerated and used within seven days. Otherwise, you're at risk of inadvertently producing a deadly neurotoxin.

Clostridium Botulinum is an anaerobic bacteria, meaning that it thrives in oxygen-free environments. Olive oil is completely anoxic, which creates an environment where botulism thrives. It's rare (about 1000 cases per year in the USA), but deadly.

Caesar salad is made with Romaine, not Iceberg.

The only salad I will eat is Caesar and Ken's is my goto Caesar dressing.

I need to learn to make Caesar dressing from scratch, but I haven't gotten around to it.

It is mayo. Mayo thinned with water.

(mayonnaise is oil, egg yolks, and vinegar. Salad Cream is oil, water, egg yolks, and vinegar.)

1/3 Japanese rice vinegar (garlic infused) 2/3 good Italian EVOO or Californian EVOO. A little salt and granulated onion.

I don't really care much for the taste of lettuce, nor really any raw vegetable, for that matter, but I'll eat a salad with the right raw vegetables and dried fruits included, if I've got either Ranch or a zesty vinaigrette dressing. A combination of Ranch and some type of Italian vinaigrette is sublime... kinda like a creamy Italian dressing.

If you consider shredded raw cabbage, carrots, onions, and green pepper (like slaw) a salad, I really like a red or wine vinegar and eastern NC barbecue sauce combination with a touch of sweetener very enjoyable. It'll put a bead on the old dome.
