That was the whole reason I made this thread... I can't resist the concept of having an original Nocaster

Mine says "G&L Tribute Series ASAT Classic" but I don't care. My first guitar cost $10 and said "Harmony" on the headstock but I played it in public anyway.

I put Esquire reflexively, because I've always wanted a bonafide Esquire. But honestly, I prefer to build my own.

Great idea. An Esquire is on my bucket list. I have always been fascinated with the 3 way switch on that guitar.

Nocasters are made to 1951 specs, which includes cloth wiring. The neck is pretty chunky, but it suits me. Mine was a 40th birthday gift. Love my wife!

Call me old-school, call me stuck in my ways; something about Fender-made necks, that say-so, just work for me. Love 'em an don't know no better. o_O

Seems this tune was formative for me as a kid, even as I didn't know what a Fender was when I sang it, the idea that "a Fender" or "my Fender" was a guitar and a thing that had some sort of value and meaning.
Levon sings: "I'll bring over my Fender, and I'll play all night for you".

Not "my Squier", not "my partscaster", not "my Gibson or my Gretsch", certainly not "my fake Fender I bought on AliBaba".

Does it matter if a Tele is a Fender or some fake like a Tokai or a Jay Turser?
Is a fake Fender a lesser guitar?
I guess for me the question is more like "do I want a real Fender?".
Pretty much yes, I like real Fender guitars and find no difficulty getting them.

OK I do find a certain amount of difficulty getting real Fender guitars I like, because I have pretty specific needs, some of which are not classic Fender spec.
But it's not like Jay Turser and Tokai offer exactly what I need while Fender doesn't.

So why buy fake Fenders or Fender copies?
    Because they are cheaper?
    Pretty much this.

Though the hair band thing was probably what popularized big money Fender copy guitars, and I suppose CBS can also be blamed for making sub par Fender guitars and driving buyers to the nice Tokai and other MIJ ripoffs in the early '80s.
I do like those Tokai lawsuit guitars.

But in the end I want Fender guitars made by Fender with Fender on the headstock.
