I just read this morning, the same joke adapted to today's american politics.

Reading all the cat threads and I’ve decided to give adoption another try. I’ve recently moved away from the big city to a small town so I’m hoping the cats here have fewer issues.

I chose a four year old whose former owner has died. Picking her up tomorrow.

i'm not a cat expert, but i've lived with quite a few cats over many years. my experience is that cats like humans more than they like other cats. they talk to humans, make demands of humans, show affection to humans, and believe it or not, worry about their humans. She's probably perfectly contented and happy the other cat is gone, and doesn't miss her at all, as long as you are there.

you've told that you are the only person in the house now, so of course she's directed her attention and affection to you. but i swear, i believe that a cat would be capable of directing their love towards someone because they know that human has suffered loss. they are more intelligent in matters of the heart than we might expect, i think. cats are smart in some ways, not so smart in other ways. but i have always found them to be loving creatures - at least, those who have lived with me were.

what do they think? to whatever extent they can "think", their "thoughts" are of comfort and safety, and YOU are comfort and safety.

A few years ago we had 3 cats. Eventually, we were left with one, Tigger.
He was a huge ginger tom. Full of confidence, scared of nothing, all the neighbours loved him. He had been the boss.

Then he became a house cat. He hated going out, started using the litter tray for the first time.
He followed me everywhere, from room to room. He sat next to me every time I sat down.
His whole personality changed when our other 2 cats died. He really missed them.
Sep29_23.JPG I said he was huge...just count those house bricks.
