What did you want to be as a kid? And how did that turn out?

I appeared on a local DC TV western kid's show around 1959 called the Pick Temple Show. He sat me on a pony and asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said I wanted to be a motorcycle. He said Oh, you want to ride motorcycles. I said No, I want to BE a motorcycle. It didn't work out.

I wanted to be a doctor or scientist of some sort. I became an electrical engineer. I get to make an ok living and it helps working on vintage amps and telecasters.

I always wanted to be a truck driver. Unfortunately, I became one. 40 years of that crap. But it got me to retirement and life is good.

As a kid I had no idea what I wanted to be as an adult. Currenty I program CNC machines. It offers me more stress than I wish from a job but it pays the bills and allows me to be creative in my work output.

Interesting story on that hat..I was at a yard/garage sale several years ago and there was a bunch of tools and other things that had belonged to a man that had passed on..
I spotted this hat and tried it on but didn't buy it..
There were some tools there that I thought my son-in-law might be interested in.So I went back home and brought him back to the sale..
As we were leaving the young woman put that hat on my head and said that when she saw it on my head it reminded her so much of her father that it was meant to be mine..
I didn't even know her but it's a treasure just because of the circumstances..
    I'll never part with it..

As a little kid in the 1960's, I must admit that I was sort of rudderless.
I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up.

I had no career ambitions, I guess that's what I am saying.
Didn't want to be a fireman or an astronaut or anything like that.

I guess, given all that I can recall, I really only wanted to be happy.

And I wanted to be loved by a beautiful naked girl who thought that I was the most wonderful boy ever.

Over the years, it's all sort of panned out to be a-okay.
I have been overall happy, most of my life.
I have been with plenty of wonderful naked girls.

I'm almost 60 years old now, I'm in a rock and roll band, my sometimes-naked wife thinks that I am the most wonderful boy ever,
    and,
I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

    I'm gonna shut up now.

I actually retired yesterday. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I am not sure what I wanted to be as a kid either. But when folks ask me what I want to do now I say whatever I want.

Update: I read the post directly underneath mine. Yes, I always wanted to be a fighter pilot. Nope, never did that.

When I left I put on my out of office email: I have retired, I am either fishing, playing guitar or throwing frisbees with my dogs.

Currently, that’s good enough for me.

Close. I always wanted to play music. Been doing it since I was five. As a kid I was fascinated with Amelia Earhart's story and wanted to be a Naval Aviator.

Of course there was a gender problem. But that changed in 1978. Although I ended up flying for USAF and not USN.

I wanted to be a professional golfer. At least until I figured out that girls liked musicians. So much for golf...
My whole life has been in the music business...no complaints at all!

I wanted to be the Yankees' centerfielder or shortstop or, as a fall back position, third baseman. It didn't happen.

I dreamed of being an Astronaut.
    It didn't happen,

    However,
Some of my co-workers would say that I did become the first syllable of my dream.
