So this Friday I will be entering in to 6 decades of life. My wife was kind enough to get me something special to mark the occasion. Our original plan was a trip to the states. The 2 hour behind the scenes factory tour at the Martin guitar factory then on to New York city. But we all know what happened to everyone's travel plans this year.
So instead I asked for a new guitar. I even made my self wait till the very day when my wife and I will be picking it up together at the local Long and Mcquade.
So while I wait I thought I'd start this thread to ask others that have come to this milestone, what did you do or get as a gift for this special occasion?

Couple more years yet, I'll be 58 in 3 1/2 weeks. My wife is only 41 so that's a gift that keeps on giving.

I don’t celebrate my birthday (r*ligious reasons), and I haven’t made it to 60 yet anyway.

    Hmm, well I do remember.

Wifey would never buy me a guitar on her own, but she does know what I like and will make suggestions.

So she found this (and ponied up the $$$'s) for me:

A Taylor K24-CE made with AAA Koa. I do need to play it more than I do. Not that I don't like it, oh contraire. It's just I can be pretty rough on my instruments, and this is one I want to keep as pristine as possible.

I'll be crossing that milestone next week.
I'll probably be lucky if I get a call from my son.

Nothing special. Birthdays have long since ceased to be much besides a stark reminder of the passage of time, and frankly at this point in my life if there is something I want I am generally either able to buy it or - if not -leave it.

wow I never thought this subject would be so depressing. I'm sorry that birthdays are such a downer for some.
Yes I could afford to just buy any guitar I want as well. This is more for the symbolism of it. Kind of like getting a gold watch after 30 years of service for a company. Yes most could afford their own watch but its a symbol marking a milestone. Its the first guitar I've ever received that has involved my wife of 33 years so it makes it special as well.

My kids threw us (my wife and I turned 60 the same year) a huge surprise party. We don’t surprise easy, but they brought together friends, family, neighbors all without us having the slightest suspicion. It was a blast and I will treasure the memory for many years.

A couple of cards, phone calls and a bottle of whisky. I did have a nice cookout. I waited until about 6pm to remind my 16 yr old what day it was lol. God forbid I forget his though lol. It was a good day.
Happy upcoming 60th birthday. I can understand the Martin tour and why you're staying local this year. But NYC...I'd avoid that like the Plague.
