I strongly suspect that's the case here as well. There are just too many strays for them to be wandering away from home.
Charli, the black and white pit in the background of Ava's photo, was a stray we found on our block shortly before Ava came along.
They are blessed we found them, and so are we.

The great thing about cats is that you don't have to make an effort to amuse them. When they want attention, they come and get it.
They leave you alone the rest of the time, and entertain themselves for the most part. Perfect situation.

Leo doesn't do a lot of resting, he is still a young man. He invented this the other day. He calls it half rat.

After the passing of our 15 year-old cat a while back, we recently adopted a rescue cat.

She'd been seriously traumatised at some point in her past, so was extremely shy, jumpy and couldn't be touched or picked up (well, not without wearing welders gloves...) and would hide all the time. Apparently no-one wants to adopt a cat that they can't see or touch, and she'd been in the sanctuary for many months.
We spent a few hours over a couple of days coaxing her out, and of course wanted to give her a home straight away

She bit me HARD when I was trying to get her into a basket to bring her home. I've never been bitten that badly before, one of the nice ladies at the sanctuary had to patch me up...blood everywhere...

We just left her to get on with things (she spent the first couple of weeks living behind the washing machine in the laundry, only came out at night when no-one was around) and waited for her to feel safe & secure in her new home, and then maybe she'd come around to us too.

Well, after 10 weeks, she's enjoying life with us, loves a fussing and is happy hanging out with us. She recently started to go outside (never been out before) and she's loving it. She becoming a very friendly, loving cat. She now owns the space in front of the woodburner, is moving in on the couch, and has made peace with the chickens in the yard, and is exploring the countryside out the back of our place. She's still a bit twitchy if startled, but every day brings a noticeable positive change.

Looking forward to the first rodent kill - got plenty of mice out there that need seeing to :D

    She's beautiful!

Cute since it's a kitten, if I tried that with my cats I'd be sliced up, they both have razor claws!

You have to clip their nails. It's not like they're going to file themselves...

Due South of my city, Adelaide , is an island called Kangaroo island ( one that suffered badly in the summer bushfires) where they have eradicated cats. They are feral, grow as big as piglets, and eat the native fauna.
Cats are generally hated here because they do so much damage. Free beer at the pub if you hit one on the road.;)

I've heard that cats sleep up to 16 hours per day, storing energy for bursts of activity. My boy must do his bursts when I'm not around, I mostly see him in the energy storage mode...

What the cat already knows is that we are not worthy to be their entertainers.
