This song is hard for me to listen to because of the memories it brings. Such a great and emotional song with some lyrics that I can certainly identify with.

the original. i remember seeing mike reid perform this song at a showcase in nashville... and thinking... 'my life just changed'... it was during the aftermath of a very sad time.... a loss. it still stands among the saddest songs.

When I was young (like 7 or 8), The Seekers “Carnival Is Over” used to get to me all the time. I think I was in love! :D

I have a whole bunch. Crushing sad songs are my thing. I think this is a nice little cover of a gem of a song:

I'm as much of a punk rocker as the next guy. But these always get me. Talk about understated singing. I believe--but am not certain--that she was aware that she was dying when she performed the second one.

The chipper title of this song is deceiving. To some extent everyone fears abandonment—and this song promises it:

Watching The Sopranos made me aware of this heart stabber...

Alright, my sad song favs are weird.

    1) Mariner's Apartment Complex by Lana del Rey - don't @ me for submitting a song by a modern era artiste, I usually listen to 60s-70s stuff but LDR is cool with me. The song means a lot to me and I cry (a whole lot) every time I hear it. Even the first bar of the song, only the entry of the piano itself hits so hard.

    2) Something by The Beatles - again, not something that usually would be considered the type of song you'd cry over, but it again has feelings and memories to it and get me misty-eyed. Anyone out here who reads this would think "How bad did this dude mess up to make THIS song make him cry?" yeeepp. Take a good song, make it sadder.

There are a few more songs that pull me down but since I've been asked only for favs, these are the ones. The others either don't hit as hard or have only a specific part that get me sad. Sorry for posting two!
