William Bell is one of the OG's at Stax down in Memphis, Tennessee. His 2016 album This Is Where I Live confirms to me that the Stax sound never goes out of style. Of course, producer John Leventhal shares some credit.

Brand new S.G. Goodman 'Planting By the Signs'.

Perhaps my favorite songwriter ever. Lyric is one thing, but the music.....

I fitted my man-cave with a large screen smart tv, Denon receiver and was gifted with Velodyne speakers with damaged drivers from shipping (thanks UPS) retrofitted with new drivers modified, and a center channel speaker. Already had a DCM sub-woofer.

Been watching You Tube videos of:

Marcus King
Kirk Fletcher
Robben Ford
Joe Bonamassa
Judith Hill
ZZ Top
Rolling Stones
Blackberry Smoke
Tedeschi Trucks Band
Gary Clark Jr.
Bonnie Raitt
Playing For Change videos
Chris Stapleton
Allison Krause
Jonny Lang
Kenny Wayne Shepard
Christone Kingfish Ingram
Jeff Beck
Dwight Yoakum

And many other artist/bands I've never heard of YouTube that suggests.

I never get tired of watching this; evidently Mr.Rich suffered a heart attack during the solo. There will never be another like him R.I.P.

Well, it's a new year and there is plenty of new music out. But I found this and was just mesmerized by his playing. Enjoy.

I have to say that I'm listening to pretty much the same stuff this year as I did last year. I have a lot of albums. Probably close to 2000 LPs and over 1000 CDs, so I have no excuse to buy new music. I do, from time to time, and it would be along the likes of that guy going that nice finger picking. When I think back to the previous year and buying really new music, it's mostly been African or Latino artists I had never heard of. Sometimes it's from something I heard on a local radio station, other times it's just me browsing through a record store and coming across someone I've never heard of. That does not happen much with jazz, classic soul, classic reggae or blues that make up the mainstay of my listening. It does however happen more often with African and Latino artists.

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerer of death's construction
In the fields, the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh, Lord, yeah
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'til their judgement day comes, yeah
Now in darkness, world stops turning
Ashes where their bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing, spreads his wings
Oh, Lord, yeah

Freaking awesome. Forget the JFK files, the RFK files, the MLK files, the Epstein files. Release these files now!

Can’t stop listening to this over the past few weeks. Got it in the used section for like $8 around a month ago. I like mostly listening to vintage country and rock, old jazz, old blues, and ‘70s west-African electric music on my record player, and while this is a rough record in a lot of ways, all the players are PLAYERS, and it sounds great. Ol’ Lazy is incomprehensible, and kind of struggles, lyric-wise much of the time, but his smoky, drunken warblings add authenticity, and they’re fun. It would not work with a singer articulating the crap out of everything.

Sorry there is not more substance to this lazy post about Lazy Lester, but I am finally off for the summer and have been chilling the bejesus out of the last few days! Happy summer!!
