Someone needs to mod an ashtray cover to be on springs with an adjustable felt bar underneath, for muting.
The harder you press, the more muting you get.
/now someone do all the hard work and I'll take a 12% concept commission :D

That's a cool idea :)

That's likely to be as successful as the muting devices Leo invented for the Jazzmaster & Jaguar. And didn't some of the early basses have them too?

People removed them because players don't want "muting devices", they use their right hand instead.

Look cool but I rest my hand on the bridge while playing (fingers only) so I can't play at all if I put mine on my 52 RI!

I have a couple, they do look pretty sharp imo. I don't hardly ever play with them on though, personal feel preference I guess. Plus on my CVC (most noticable), it changes the tone/sound enough for even me to hear it? Not bad, just different.

As someone already mentioned, even the Fender ones are fairly inexpensive and changes the look quite a bit.

Truth is, I like the look of bridge covers for Strats much better all the way around.

I loved the look of it on my 52RI when it was new. Couldn't play at all with it on though. I gave it to a friend who does guitar repair after about a week of trying to make it work. No way for me to palm mute.

When I was 14 I got my '69 Tele brand new. I left it on because I was so new to guitar playing that I just thought it was supposed to be there. As a result, it got worn. Now THAT is a cool look! After a few years I realized that it didn't have to be on all the time but by that time it got nicely worn. And yes, I still have it.
