It's funny there's really such thing as school Book ?

I thought it was a caricatural high school representation in the US via movie and TV shows.

Actually, it's called a "yearbook" and it's a pretty big deal to students and parents in middle school and high school in the US. My library has an archive of them for our town and people come in all the time who want to look at the old pictures.

Yearbooks are what we call them, and they are incredibly important at the time

Years later they are very fun to look back on, if not awkward and embarrassing...

I look back on the way I looked in middle school and high school.. and I have no recollection of ever looking like that. It's strange.

It's called a "Year Book" printed every year in High School and sometimes Junior High School. Photos of all the students, faculty, and members of clubs, sports teams, and all school activities.

Yearbook yes I forgot the word !

    Bal prom too ?

I guess it's pretty obvious this cultural thing at least in the US, same as going in Ivy League, having a ring, rooting for NCAA team etc.

That's not something we got in Continental Europe, and since teen movie are often not that good, I can't really tell the myth from reality.

That's why I like other country based forum !

They are useful for pressing flowers, if you like that sort of thing.

Not just for school either. The old man had a couple from his time on the Dallas Police, more or less the same format. 'Official' officer pics and sections for each division (traffic, vice, etc).

Why did you delete the original posts and change the title?

    *edit*

There’s a few yearbooks from the 50s when my mom was in high school around at the house. And, of coarse, a bunch from when the five of us kids were in school. I never wanted them, but my mom got them every year.

Yeah, proms, plus winter formals and homecoming dances too. Never had a ring or rooted for a college team though.

Edit, and because I was born super edgy*, I'll point out that I only have my 9th grade year book and a couple from junior high. Way too cool for that kind of thing.

*lazy, always missed the deadline to order.

That might be on the caricatural side too.

Damn, now I think that except french girls, there were nothing cool in our school life !

Oh by the way you don't really choose courses here, but that might have changed.

Sorry for the hijack but that's really a discovery for me !

Here's Hector Savage in his yearbook:

He grew up and bombed a building, and tried to kill a lovely lady while she was taking her shower---nude.

My guess is you got a much better education. We also go to school from 5-18 here... which I think is longer than France by a couple of years, so we paid for the "cool" stuff with time. And money... those dances were expensive. Renting a tuxedo, maybe a cool car or limo for your last prom, etc. Nothing but social pressure, ditto buying the year books, going to pep rallies for sports you don't care about, etc.
Not sure how that is here now either. In the 80s, you had the basics and had to fill in some "electives" around that, the majority of which are predictably time-wasters.
