I’ve been dealing with a sore shoulder for 3 years. Steroid shots have made it tolerable but we’re only buying time.

A week ago, I went in for surgery. The Dr. ground down the end of my collar bone at the A/C joint and scraped a bunch of arthritis out of the joint too.

Over the weekend, this showed up...

...big, nasty bruise. My band plays in 11 days. Oh, the things I will do to get out of loading equipment.

    Sorry, man.
Rest, and heal up, you’ve got music to play!

My partner had similar and was signed off work for six weeks. She's got full mobility and no pain now, if that's any comfort to you.

I hope it looks worse than it feels and heals up well. A few years ago I fell up our basement steps (yes, up) and banged my hip. It felt like expected, sore for a few days, but the bruising that resulted was incredible and widespread and lasted weeks.

Bummer! Only 11 days; ibuprofen may well be your friend. Hopefully your band mates are as well, and help you load in an out!

Picked up a guitar today for the first time since the surgery. Playing it was not much of a problem but picking it up and strapping it on was “interesting”.

Don’t push yourself so hard you reverse the “fix”. Some of the surgery stuff takes time to get right. There’s always tomorrow.

Yeah, do what you're told by the doctor and don't mess it up by going too fast. Both of my shoulders have issues to the point that I'm unable to do push ups any more, but I'm dreading/putting off surgery for as long as I can. From what I've seen, shoulder recovery can take a while. Best wishes for the swiftest recovery.

First, I’m not a doctor. I don’t think arthritis can be scraped out. Loose cartilage can be removed or some torn cartilage repaired.... However, I have heard of bone being scraped, which can be done in arthroscopic surgery, for knees anyway, to stimulate growth of cartilage. Also there is literature suggesting advances in the use of PRP to regenerate cartilage. Good luck!

Hear me out on this one...mash up bannanas and cover that arm up with it under an ace bandage. The potassium will absorb into the skin and break up the bruising.

Learned that trick from a Vegas stripper decades ago. She was the same one that told me to cure sunburn by sitting in a hot tub and although that sounds like terrible advice...she was 100% correct.

    Sympathies.

But I'll tell you what that bruising reminds me of...
I had four wisdom teeth extracted. General anesthesia.
Really messed me up. I asked the surgeon if it was normal to hurt so bad upon awakening.
He said "those were some of the biggest impacted wisdom teeth I ever saw!"
Two days later bruising developed on my chest.
Perfect outline of an open handprint.

You dont want to know what goes on during surgery while under anesthesia.
