You Wisconsin guys sure are proud of your dairy. It is like you forget that California exists. The name of one of the cities I used to live in literally translates to cow town. (I only joke about this because I went to college in Wisconsin but grew up in California - most of the folks I met there that bragged about Wisconsin dairy genuinely didn't know that California was the leading dairy producer in the U.S., let alone a major dairy and ag state).

That Wisconsin cheese is a good runner up though (especially brick cheese) and I always liked the milk in a bag thing when I visited my friend in Manitowoc.

As someone from the PacNW that's now in Wisconsin:

The Left Coast produces the MOST QUANTITY of cheese and diary.
Wisconsin produces the MOST VARIETY of cheese and dairy.

There's some great stuff for sure from the Left Coast. Tillamook cheeses are among the top tier in the world, and there are plenty of others down The 5 that can command a presence on the world stage. No doubt about that.

But I've gotta tell ya, Wisconsin dairy is STUPID GOOD. It's almost as if a bunch of descendants from the Old World settled here and brought thousands of years of tradition with them, or something.

The PacNW will always beat WI in weed and wine, but I think when it comes to dairy there's no contest. And I say this as someone who is lactose intolerant.

Beer is a tough one though. Lots of great brew from both places.

Wisconsin doesn't know california cheese exists, and neither does california. They may have dairy, but there's no culture around it there. Same with beer. When I go shopping the cheese section is at least 3 aisles, both sides. That's normal here, even kind of small. Cheese from everywhere too, not just our own. I've never seen any decent cheese selection at a store in california. Also, most of the cheese I've had from california was low quality. I think if it's not goat, brie, or soft specialty, it's just not good there. If I want to be impressed by another state's dairy, I go to quebec.

The last year Pat Sajak was on Wheel of Fortune he was talking to Vanna White after the game was over. He told her that they drink skim milk at his house, but he accidentally brought home whole mile from the grocery a few days earlier.

He then said, "You know what? Milk tastes GOOD!"

No posts since 14:11. RIP MikeEskimo.

The lactose and galactose got 'im, I'm sure.

Update : I had the cereal - and the milk!

As an aside, I had to set the temp up a little in the fridge raider because I guess I had the milk too close to the back wall and it was a little icy. 🥶

Anyhow, I guess the biggest take would be I feel fine, but I wouldn’t recommend the Trader Joe’s organic raisin bran (w/ oat clusters !) to anyone who doesn’t have a solid dental plan or a good chompers.

The raisins were more like raisin jerky. 👍🏽

Oh, and oat milk was my last go round with anything resembling milk. Just like skim milk never made the permanent rotation for the same reason - mouth feel - I decided to pack up milk completely because I had given up auditioning yet another plant-based milk.

This will probably be a one and done, but I may sift through that box to try to sort out those devilish tar raisins.

Fage, I’m coming home !

how has no one repeated the Swanson quote - 'the only thing I hate more than lying is skimmed milk - which is water, lying about being milk'

I do wonder about people who tune into the site for guitar discussion and their first thread is all about what milk to put on bran cereal

has every topic in the world been exhausted? Is it time to ask who puts 11s on their guitar?

wound G, anyone?

If you don't have a milk or lactose intolerance you'll be fine. In fact, turn it up to 11. Go back to the store and get heavy cream.
This is what Mrs. bsman insists on for her hot cereal, etc. Funny - I used to be lactose intolerant (had a few close calls with dinners far away from home...) - but about 20 years of abstinence from non-fermented dairy seemed to reset my gut and I can tolerate it now. I sometimes still feel a bit queasy when eating some whipped cream or tomato soup, but now I don't feel queasy after!!!

I don't "drink" milk by the glass. It only gets used for my beloved morning latté, when Professor Dr. SWMBO and I have granola for a quick meal or as a cooking ingredient. I buy whole milk these days rather than the 2% I bought years ago. It froths better, lasts longer and I just plain prefer it.

I think you're looking for the main Tele Forum, Piggy, this is the Bad Dog Cafe. You can get all kinds of info here, some of it is even helpful, can be even fun. Guitars, not so much.

“Province”, to be specific. Touchy subject these days….

My wife is from Québec. We sneak cheese back in our luggage every time we visit. She started making her own cheese curds because she couldn’t find them in Arizona. They were so good we started selling them at farmers markets. Some of the Snowbirds from Wisconsin would turn their noses up at them at first, thinking they couldn’t possibly be any good, but once they tried them we had some Wisconsinites return week after week to buy them.

Mike Eskimo here, just wanting to let everyone know that I'm okay, and still able to communicate with the Bad Doggers. Just a taddy bit confined since my milk dunking episode, but ever the thinking man, I prepared for all contingencies.

I succumbed to a box of cereal at Trader Joe’s today. I haven’t eaten cereal in well over a decade.

Believe me, it’s just some kind of organic TJ raisin bran. Not Fruity Pebbles.

But I eat so much broccoli on a weekly basis that I said - screw it , I’m getting whole milk.

Is it gonna rip my innards apart?

I do eat nonfat thick Greek yogurt every morning. It’s so thick you could easily tape sheetrock joints with it.

Definitely going to do it tomorrow morning because I’ll be at home working all day… In case ! 😆

Oh man, they must love you. How far do you have to go to get to a dairy farm from where you are?

What the medical profession actually knows with any certain about cholesterol is . . . just about nothing.

Enjoy the whole milk, and the butter.
When you metabolize fat, you make cholesterol. If your cholesterol is high, eat less fat.

I don’t even have a dish on my house house.
All I got in the privy is the Sears 1897 catalog and that’s getting mighty thin !

I've been making yogurt (technically it's cultured dairy) with a specific bacteria strains(s). Whole milk and half & half is what's recommended. The high fat content is key.

You'll be fine. I regret my mom pushing that 2% on us kids our whole life. Prob another reason I didn't grow until after high school.
