What’s better, cats or dogs? Why?

I have no opinion. They’re all just entries on the list of things that I have to feed in the morning before I’m even fully awake. And they all like me, so I have no favorites.

But I’m sure that many people do have an opinion, and I thought that it might be interesting to find out why and take a poll to see which is the more popular pet.

Cats for me. Dogs are too needy. I like an independent pet who shows affection now and then, but who does not need my attention as much as a dog does. I've had both, by the way.

Depends, are you a hunter? Or are you a witch? Depends on what lifestyle you have

Love 'em both. I have a cat ATM since I'm an apartment dweller, and prior to COVID had to routinely spend a couple nights here and there out of town for work; a cat works a lot better for my current sitch. When the space allows, I'll likely have another cat and a couple puppers as well.

Dogs do their business outside. Plus they sleep through the night instead of purring around your head at 3 am. You can give them a bath when they are dirty or, God forbid, have fleas. They go for walks with you. And finally, they don't crawl into engine compartments.

Take a dog and a cat. Look at the dog. Now look at the cat. If you can’t see the dog is better, then nothing I can tell you will make you understand.

I don't hate cats. My wife has three of them. I would prefer none. They're destructive.

    I love dogs.
    I love cats.
    I have cats.
I sometimes leave home for a day or three.
I would not be able to leave a pup alone that long.
The kitties, with plenty of food, water, and litter will be OK.
When I finally retire (yeah right), I’ll get a pooch.
    Maybe two.

Both. Or neither. Depending on one's temperament.

Dogs. Large ones. Cats are perpetually a few killed pests away from being a pest themselves. Dogs are smart but generally easy to get along with. Unlike parrots and macaws, who are temperamental jerks with intelligence...

This is yet another boring and useless Ginger vs. Mary Ann thread. Is that all you got? This site is developing a serious lack of imagination.

I have a strong affection for cats. I just like what they are as beings. I like big dogs quite a bit, but really too needy and dirty. Now little dogs, I have a strong almost unnatural dislike for them.

Dogs are more likely to love you unconditionally and are generally more affectionate, but they also require more time and attention. Cats will let you know if/when they want attention. Otherwise, you pretty much just need to feed them and they’re maintenance free for the most part. Cats love you in their own way, and they don’t/can’t show it the way dogs do.

Nay, this is far more than just Ginger vs. Mary Ann. The answer to that conundrum is easy - both Ginger and Mary Ann are lovely, each in their own way.

But cats vs. dogs, that’s a bone marrow issue. Peoples’ very self-images are often defined, at least in part, by whether they consider themselves cat or dog people.
