I’ve carried and used a Swiss Army knife or equivalent since I was 8. Today I was using the blade when I held it the wrong way and it closed on my finger. Ouch. I’m now at the doctors waiting to get the cut cleaned and (hopefully not) stitched. It’s on my right index finger. So banjo is impossible. Guitar is difficult.

the worst is the knock to the pride knowing it was stupid.

no real reason to post. Just to put somerhere publicly how silly I feel.

I feel for you man....only thing to say is graduate to a lock blade. You may still cut yourself, but not from it closing on you.

Super glue worked for me. I gashed my left(fretting) palm a year ago. It was right near my index finger. It would have needed stitches but I decided to super glue it. Worked really well, and the glue just peels off after a few days. I re glued it after it came off the first time. After the second lot came off, the cut had pretty much healed. Can't even see the scar...I also use glue when my nails separate from too much playing...SRV style. That works as well.;)

If I tried to Super Glue a bad cut on one hand I'd somehow manage to glue the other hand to my arse and bleed to death.
Scientists are just starting to study the substance in Super Glue fumes that effects some people's brains like that. It acts very fast, as soon as it's opened, people sensitive to whatever it is can't stop themselves from sticking odd parts of their bodies together.
So far it seems to effect those people who use run-on sentences worse, than those people that know how to write properly.

I used to love my Swiss Army knives when I was a kid... and still have the scars from them closing on me! I now only carry pocket knifes with a locking blade. (CRKT being my brand of choice).

My father had a 'split' in the middle of his thumb, perpendicular to the nail. He did it when he was in his early teens when a knife closed on his thumb and it never healed properly due to the position and thickness of the skin. Each winter the scar would always open up slightly, so he'd super glue it back together.

I hope your finger returns to normal so you can continue to play.
I accidentally slammed my finger on closing a car door just before a very significant gig. The lady singer was with me. She went on to lofty heights- I went to hospital with an almost crushed finger tip.:(

Every restaurant kitchen has at least one bottle of CA for just this thing. If you're ever out and about and need a dot of CA for any reason, ask at your local greasy spoon.

Super Glue is addictive. Once you use it on a cut, you could start finding excuses to cut yourself again just to use it once more. Just say no.

Ugh, I feel your pain. Here in the UK we're not allowed to carry locking blades, so it's the finger-eating folding knife (with a very short blade limit) or nothing.

I did that month ago. Only hedge trimmer got me stitches. Toughest part was they kept my cut finger in a bed Of iodine and alcohol for 20 minutes. Ouch every second. It did not get numb. I’m wimpier now. lol. Ps.
