I just installed a JB in a guitar with a push-pull tone pot for coil splitting. I followed the SD diagram. When I plug in, the pickup in humbucker mode is extremely quiet. When split, it’s normal volume, so I assume working as it should.

    Where did I go wrong?

Try reflowing your ground to the pot.

How did you connect the leads? Red+White together, to the split switch? Green to ground, Black to hot?

If you swapped one of the pairs (green/red, or black/white), the split would sound fine, but the full pickup would have the two coils out of phase with each other, and most of the signal would cancel out. Very thin sound.

I have it wired exactly as you said, but I may have found the issue. There’s a connection between two of the switch terminals that probably shouldn’t be there. I’ll try removing it later and see if that does it.

okay, I got it working! Thanks all for the assist.

So I did this swap on an Epiphone Les Paul that came stock with push-pull tone pots. However they wired it at the factory is how I had to do that with the SD, and that involved separating the red and white leads (contrary to the standard SD diagram). Go figure!
