I was about ready to leave the office on Thursday afternoon when my wife called in a panic. Our 3 month old niece was being rushed to the ER after having been found by her father, in her crib with no pulse and not breathing. She had only been alone for 6 minutes. Efforts to revive her brought back a pulse, but she required breathing assistance. On Saturday, after two days of zero brain activity, and at the recommendation of the attending physician, life supporting efforts were removed and she passed away peacefully within 60 seconds.

Initial reports point to "SIDS" which is just a big blanket term that doesn't help a whole lot right now. Doc says she had very small evidence of rhinovirus and enterovirus, each of which may be responsible for setting a small chain of events into action which led to this.

Nevertheless, I have been asked (once again) to play guitar at the funeral tomorrow.

This is a tough, tough, tough time for my family. I'm not sure how I'll be able to keep it together on guitar, but I'll manage I guess.

My heart goes out to you and the family, my deepest sympathies. I had to play and sing at my mom's funeral, I held it together, but it was tough. To this day I have a hard time doing that song.

I can't think of anything worse than losing a child. I hope you keep it together tomorrow, I think it will be a truly heroic effort if you do. - Good luck.

That's just it TD... There are absolutely no words that help. You and I have talked before, and I know we look at life through the same basic lense. But nobody wants to hear dogmatics in times like this. Just hold hands and give hugs and say "I love you" a lot. There will be times for the other.

    The worst of all worlds.
No parent should have to bury their own Child.

God Bless, it will be anything but easy.
If it is any Consolation, your effort will bring a measure of Comfort for years to come by those in Attendance.

I learned the song a little earlier. "Untitled Hymn" by Chris Rice if you're interested in looking it up. Simple to play. The lyrics are not so simple.

I went over to their house tonight and we all tried to walk that balancing line between mourning together and trying to distract each other with funny family stories.

My sincerest condolences to your family.

The Mother's grief can be so disheartening to hear and see at times.
You can be out of your mind with sorrow.

The baby was an innocent bystander in all this......this battlefield.
