We are going to ride this one out - we live in a part of New Orleans that did not flood for Katrina even with all the levees down - and the old house has stood through 140 years of storms so I - think - we will be ok albeit uncomfortable if and when power goes out.

I’ve been without power for up to nine days after storm, it’s no fun.

My son lives in Covington across the lake from New Orleans. I told him to get prepared last week. He usually heads to his in-laws in higher ground. The day before is always stressful.

With a storm of this size and magnitude, if possible, get to at least higher ground and out of the winds path

Now predicting category 4 with 140! mph winds. My wife and I vacation stopped in New Orleans about 5 years after Katrina hit and there was still a lot of evidence of the devastation from that storm. If you are in the cone of this one don't be macho/brave. Expect the worst and good luck to all of you. Stay out of harms way and stay safe.

    Yeah, it’s a Cat 4.
We stayed for Katrina and I remember it vividly And it was to our east so we were on the weak side.
This one will cross about 60 miles west of me.

I’m going to visit my friend in Shreveport.

And I know this is about the flood, but it always comes to mind.

she did not articulate it well but what she was trying to say is there was not enough time to set up the traffic control apparatus “contra flow” that they have used in the past to great effect. they make highways and interstates one way out of Dodge. This storm jumped up quick. They still want you to leave but don’t think it wise to make it mandatory
    .

Will do - if I can!

My nephew & his family live in Baton Rouge. They went to Pensacola yesterday where they have a place to stay. They have small kids & not worth taking the chance. Both of them went through Katrina & have were raised in and around New Orleans.

    Hope all are safe!

I would say from where you live bad idea but it is probably too late now to do anything else. Good luck.

Police chief in Grand Isle reported a 148 mph gust. Then the anemometer broke.
