Very new to this ball game. Let me start with a question. I recently acquired a 60th anniversary MIM Telecaster. It's an interesting color. Kind of a silver\gray metallic. Was this a stock color?

Could be Agave. A photo is needed for any kind of meaningful response. And welcome to TDPRI!

If your MIM Telecaster is one of Fender's 60th Anniversary special issue guitars, it would have the Fender Diamond Anniversary neckplate and be finished in Blizzard Pearl (which looks like a light silver metallic color) and have come in a 60th Diamond Anniversary gig bag.

According to my Fender Frontline 2006 magazine (which chronicles the Diamond Anniversary models), the only MIM Standards offered in the 60th Anniversary line were the Stratocaster and the Precision Bass. However, it is possible they did Telecasters, too, though they are not shown or described in the 60th Diamond Anniversary issue.

Here is a couple more snaps. The big bag of was in is nothing special although it is padded and has the Fender conical on it. IMG_20200221_152040.jpg IMG_20200221_152110.jpg

It was fitted with Sperzall locking machines at some point.

Your Telecaster looks to be a 60th Anniversary model, but of the Telecaster (1951-2011), not the Diamond Anniversary of the Fender Company (1946-2006).

The neck plates are completely different.

Yes true! But still the question remains about the color. The metallic throws me off.

I couldn't tell you the year, but guitar center did a run of some sort of silver metallic things on different guitars at different points. I actually had an Sg of that color, but I know they've done other brands at different times also. Good luck.

I thought it might be a derivative. Not sure if I'm bummed or not

So, worse case scenario, fitted with a new neck plate. Does it sound good, play good, feel good, do you really like it? ‘Yes’ answers mean so what about the neck plate?

I am more of a bass player by far. Limited 6 string playing. But I will say this plays sounds and feels better than a MIA Tele I had a while back. Best action.

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought all the 2011 "60ths" except for Signatures and AVs and obvious Fender Custom Shop, got this neck plate (with the tilt guitars getting a 5th hole plate).

Also not 100% sure, but I think this plate is not steel, but sintered yellow base metal. Don't tighten the neck bolts too much - such a plate could crumble.

FMIC did do some special models; special colors in 2011. My instinct is, this is genuine. What would be cool would be, pulling it apart to see which pickups it has.

Yeah, there was an FSR "mash-up" model about this time, with an alder body and a 50s Baja MIM neck, but the rout for the batteries is not present on your guitar. I almost wonder if FMIC had surplus paint and in this way, that "Mid Boost" model and your Standard are related.
