Looks like a great product.
Since it's Tele standard neck pocket route - I guess your favorite neck would be perfect for this.

Someone from Warmoth at TGP posted this:

"If you custom build a regular Tele body in the custom builder on the Warmoth website, with the closest options possible, it comes out to $771. That still doesn't account for the custom 3-piece laminates, which are on both top and back, the special 1-piece Swamp Ash core, the custom-cut pickguard and bridge-plate, or the installed ferrules.

If you are looking for the cheapest body possible, these bodies aren't for you. The Purple Tribute bodies are a bit spendy, but they include some extremely non-standard, hard-to-build options. They aren't exactly the kind you find in a second-hand store."

For 999$ I would have expected them to get the details right, but they really didn't...
This really feels like cashing in on a tragic event, and the increase in demand that followed after that. :(

What are the missed details?
And a tribute should be close enough with some improvement and not exact.
My 2 cents.
If they advertised as replica then I agree with you.

But in the end Prince loved music and if this help someone further their love in music - it's good.

As far as cashing in....yeah...this...demand will stay strong for years to come as the new generation gets introduded to his music.

.

A couple of things, which I won't tell, no need to make them smarter. :)

But the pickguard is not even close for starters...

999$ for only the body does makes the real thing look like a sweet deal.

Looks pretty close to me. You could probably put the whole thing together for $1,600 (with a luthier doing the assembly and set up) and it would still be cheaper than any custom I can think of.

Besides the money, the only thing holding me back is that I'd hate for folks to see me with it and think I could play 1/10th as well as Prince and then have that disappointed look on their faces as I started to play.
