That's one of those archetypal guitar songs in A major, and quite complex at that.
However, there is so much strong live footage of that song out there that it feels peculiar to watch a mimed video clip.
I had never seen the music video and thought I'd post it. Studio version is good. First time I heard the tune was watching the Highlander movie.
I just read the wikipedia article. The music video is apparently not mimed, but built around footage from a live concert in Belgium.
Apparently the single version is edited down from the LP version. I wonder what is missing from the latter; I might need to dig out the old vinyl LP.
I do not own one Queen record.
Ever since the movie came out I have heard and seen more Queen in 12 months than in the previous 30 years.
I AM LOVING IT
I'm with @Chief101 ... forgettable. Everyone is now dumber for having listened to it.
That's amazing. Glad you're liking it. Plenty of geezers on here would have their story, mine is sneaking (lying/ about my age) at the local library in 1979 so I could listen to records thru headphones that plugged straight into the player. I would listen to 'News of The World' and just stare at the cover. When 'The Game' was coming out I got some money from my grandma and bought a 45 of Play the Game (along with a few other singles). I've liked them for a long time. Never saw them live, too young by just a few years. I did see Brian May, Back to the Light tour in the 90s and that was pretty great.
Queen sure does put on a great live show every show. I have a DVD of Queen live in Montreal 1982. That's one of my favourite concert DVD's of all time.
Live at the Rainbow is one of my favorites. Already in 1974 they were an awesome band.
I like it.
I was in my 30s when Queen came up and, after almost 20 years playing, my musical energies were focused on learning and understanding Jazz (late start for sure).
Eight years ago my 25 yr old son comes home one day with a bunch of Queen CDs, a vid and some sheet music. I'm fan to this day. Late starter again. Story of my life...
Saw them twice while in high school in London. Crazy Tour of 79 and Flash Gordon tour 80. Both great shows. Freddie was spectacular in person.
Read the thread, didn't watch the video. I never cared for their music, to each his own, yada, yada, yada. Liked the SNL meme more...
May's rhythm guitar sound on that tune is probably the first six or seven of the Top 10 Best Ever Rhythm Guitar Tones Evar.
When thought to be a fool, it is best not to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. -Abe Lincoln
Saw this on another thread.
Here's what I found in a real quick look around..
The single, the video I posted first, has shortened guitar lead/instrumental section from the album cut.
The Live Aid version posted above has the similar, shortened arrangement where the first two sections of the lead are removed.
The live Wembley on the Magic tour the songs was actually extended in the middle, but other version from that tour are shortened like Live Aid.
