Waddy's a very tasteful player, whose playing has graced records by Keith Richards, The Rolling Stones, Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, Linda Rondstadt and many others. He always gets a great tone and plays the right licks for the song. I was tickled when Keith added Waddy to the X-Pensive Winos in the late '80s, because I had thought for years before that they would be a very natural pairing, and they were. Hopefully, Keith will reunite the Winos for another solo album and tour someday, they are a really great band. I was playing "Talk Is Cheap" earlier, which got me thinking about Waddy.

Waddy plays around here somewhere supposedly. I think on empty Monday nights or something too.

If so, I should go check him out sometime.

Yeah, my girl is a Stones FREAK (second only to the Who), but I think I actually dig the Wino's more than she does! HAHA

Waddy plays most Monday nights at The Joint at Robertson and Pico in West Los Angeles

He gets all-star surprise guests - for instance, if the Stones are around, Keith Richards will often sit in with him. His band is great, includes the guy who plays bass with Neil Young. They play a variety of 60's / 70's rock stuff, not necessarily songs that have anything to do with Waddy. It wasn't until I saw them do "I am the Walrus" that I realized it can be done live.

Waddy Rocks!

Over the years, I've seen Waddy with Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon, Keith Richards, and others and he just kicks butt. Great tone, great riffs and a live wire onstage too--he plays with such authority and controlled swagger. No wonder Keith Richards signed him up.

It's interesting. I read this book called Laurel Canyon about LA's 60s-70s famous hippie rock star neighborhood and they talk about how Waddy came to LA with his Vermont band. His band didn't make it but Waddy certainly went on to become one of the premiere session guitarists in LA. I love the stuff he did with Zevon.

Waddy is one of those GREAT players that the public has heard and yet he doesn't get any recognition. One of the greatest sidemen ever.

I've always respected his playing.
Session players don't get the recognition they deserve.
Most of them are BETTER guitarists than the one's you see live.

Waddy's really good. Another who doesn't get the recognition he deserves is Snowy White. He toured with a later incarnation of Thin Lizzie, as well as being a touring guitarist with Pink Floyd (back in the day) and most recently with Roger Waters.

I always kind of wondered how you're supposed to pronounce Waddy Wachtel. I've been seeing his name in credits for years, but can't recall ever hearing anyone say his name.

This is funny I was watching "FM" last night on On Demand cable what a horrible movie. The only good part was the Linda Ronstadt concert with Waddy playing and singing prominently.

Thanks. I guessed wrong I guess. Got the "Wah dee" part right though.

Do you mean, the last name is Watch Tell?

A real good player. It's good to know he's still out there making music.
