...being *IN* UK is more likely to elicit Sr McCartney's endorsement for sure.

Third or forth UK company in a variety of fields that has done this on some level over the past few years, In some cases I think it's simply a ploy to engender good feeling, a few firms have sited QC issues and difficulty in getting what they need from vendors and suppliers..

I doubt it. Sir Paul has been using Mesa Boogie for a long time and, considering that he (probably) has more $ than all the folks here on TDPRI combined, I seriously doubt that he cares about endorsement deals. But what do I know?

He won’t return my calls and we haven’t talked for years...

Fwiw, Vox is no longer an English or British company. IT is owned by Korg, which is owned by a Japanese company and headquartered in Japan. Celestion is owned by a company headquartered in Taiwan. Marshall is still an English company.

In business perception is everything, Vox is still perceived by the average enthusiast/buyer as a UK company, that little Union Jack sticker next to "Made in England" is what they want, the rest is mere detail..

I get that, CK. IT is all the same until the profits are counted in some currency other than pounds Sterling. There are people who buy illegal---in the USA--- Chinese knockoff guitars that look like a Gibson or a Fender....from maybe 15 feet away. Perceptions...what a limited concept, eh? Some people stuff socks down their pants before they go onstage, right? eeeeehaw.....
IF I were English, I would rather pay for a boutique handmade amp build on the home islands.

We have Japanese , and German cars made in U.S.A. & American cars made in Canada and Mexico . Most people identify the product as being from the original country and not from the country of manufacture .

In this "world" economy I'm not sure that being handmade in the UK means anything. It's not like they are going to find a bunch of the original Vox factory folks to make these amps. The only difference in hand making an amp in the UK vs. China or Korea is the labor costs. It's marketing pure and simple.

My Y2K-ish AC-15 was made in the UK. I don't know how that effects the tone, but it makes me feel good about it. It's a Vox. It should be English. Yeah, I'm stuck in the '60's about some stuff.

You sure about that? Last time I was at NAMM (15 years ago) I coulda sworn they were in the same room with KORG. Maybe it was distribution deal but I assumed they were there as part of the corporate umbrella.

Perceptions.... the biggest ripoff in this guitar amp world imho is the profit made on the made in China speakers with Celestion labes on them. Regardless of the sonics—-good or bad——these speakers should cost 1/3-1/2 of what people give for them to satisfy their perceptions.

Howlin, as I understand it the arrangement that existed between Marshall and Kong was indeed a distribution deal. I do not know whether or not they still operate under such agreement.
