I've come to confess that I've abruptly decided to make my P15R into a piece of gear I wish I'd never parted with.

I always reserve the right to re-think things, and sometimes what you need is simply change. The little guy hasn't changed, but I added an AC30HWH+V212x to my deal, and that put me at three Vox's. Loving the '30 (in 15w mode mainly) and suddenly felt the thing I needed was more variety. So the P15R and an AC15cc find new homes, and my portable jamming amp becomes...??? Maybe a Mark V:25.

Pathfinders used to be so cheap that I bought one for $75, sold the amp out of it for $50 and used the cab to house a 6G15 reverb that I built. Had to cut the cab down a little.

I got a 15R cheap and liked it because it’s very light but still loud enough for small gigs with my little band.

Then it broke- light comes on but no sound. I’ve long thought repairing it would cost more than the amp was worth but I’m beginning to wonder :)

    Do broken ones sell?

This one is current in local DC-area/NoVa FB Marketplace ( I got my 2nd one here, 2 weeks ago, for $100!)

I made a quick and dirty cab for mine with a 10” speaker. It roars. Have a Ragin Cajun in there now. Anyone have a recommendation for another 10” speaker that might pair well with the PF?

Warehouse makes a 10-inch, 8-ohm Green Beret that sounds terrific with it. WGS Green Berets are basically Greenback replacements.

Would that cabinet have started its life as a hive box? Very nice looking!

Yes exactly. Cheapo solution. For $25 it’s a pine box with dovetail joints. Not furniture-quality. But pretty good. I would have had no means to cut joints like that. Glued and screwed. The chassis just so happened to fit perfectly.

Ok, so I have been playing my AC4CL and Pathfinder 15r side by side with an a/b box.
They both sound good in their own way but I now have a theory about the "magic" of the lowly pathfinder.
The AC4 has a 10" speaker and the pathfinder has an 8".
I would think that the larger speaker would be better but it's stuffed in that little cab
The pathfinder has a bigger cabinet with a smaller speaker which can breath better and has a fuller bass response. Quite a few smaller amps come in a much smaller cab than the pathfinder.
So to me that's the magic, the right speaker, in the right cabinet = sonic goodness.

I think that's a good theory and makes some sense.......

Here's my solution to above. Weber alnico Silver Bell 10". I got this speaker used for $80, so not an over-indulgence in my $40 Pathfinder. The magnet cover had to be removed, and the baffle hole was enlarged and lowered. The top of the speaker cutout is flattened to not interfere with the gold strip across the front, and stock appearance was fully retained.

Wow, that magnet is soo big it looks like it wants to fall over on its back. Ha ha

I built a 1X12 extension cab for "bigger gigs"

Was this testing with the Master Volume bright cap installed? This is a major weakness in the AC4C1. You could compare them at full volume to bypass the bright cap.

Nope, doesn't matter. I'm comparing the pathfinder to all other small amps.

Speaker size in combination with cabinet size.

Not many other 8" combos have such a large cab.

I believe that is a large part of the pathfinder magic

BTW, the way that I play, mostly on the neck pup, I needed more brightness.

I'd wait to flip it, wait a year or two then it will be worth it.

I will. It is going to sit in a closet.
The one I'm trying for is a Korean model.
I will run the 2 Korean ones in stereo. They will match visually.
The made in Vietnam one will be the one I flip.
