Ok, so now given that the beloved Pathfinder has "jumped the shark" as it were.

I believe I bought the equivalent in my recent Vox AC4CL BL.
Yah, there are no effects but, in almost new condition, out the door for $200

I was wondering why Vox hasn't reissued the newer SS Pathfinders, and this may be the reason why. They already have a good lineup of SS amps with the MV series and the Mini Superbeetle. What they should do is develop some larger SS heads and Combos in the spirit of the Mini Superbeetle.

And while you're at it Vox, how about a Mini UL-7120 Revolver Amp...with a SS preamp and tube power amp??

$500= $100 for the amp, $400 for the internet buzz.

My brother has a 15r sitting in his apt kitchen as display
with other trivia stuff..posters, etc..he does not play.
he is keyboard man. I think he just liked the vox name
in the mix. He has a rock kitchen, a Vader and pirate front room
    and a 70s 60s bedroom..with assort keys and a video games.

If this one is in VGC., and a Pathfinder 15R, I'd probably jump on this, if it were on my local CL

( but of course, you gotta like the amp, which I do)

The secret is cut out the bright cap (c20) on the master volume so that it sounds fuller at lower volumes....

I’ve never understood the Pathfinder hype. Years ago after seeing its praises on forums like this one, I grabbed one used for $100 or so.

It sounded like a boxy little $100 transistor practice amp. Kept it under my desk as an ultra low volume practice amp. It was okay for that purpose and sounded decent for what I was. But some of these threads suggest it’s the best bang for the buck amp ever, gig worthy, and rivals other much better amps. Nope.

Yup, alas you spent too much.
For $50 and add a 12" extension speaker is where the magic is...

After checking this thread last night ( as a PF 15R owner, and really like mine),
just for kicks, I went to my local FB Marketplace and someone has one FS, $100! Top of page- weird!

I messaged seller last night, and on my way to pickup now, yay!

    Edit
just picked up the Pathfinder looks like there was a death in the family and a daughter was selling her father's gear I got the optional footswitch along with the amp $100

Does Vox not just, for a sec., see all this and think, 'hey, could just make those again.' or is there some sort of market analytics that indicate to them that if it were actually being produced again it would lose its luster and people would stop buying it?

Cool, glad it works for you. Looking back, $50 would have been too much too ;)

This question has been discussed often on this site and Vox Owner sites. Vox themselves (to my knowledge) have never offered an explanation.....but the general consensus is that the sale of an inexpensive solid state amp with reverb and tremolo would "cut into" sales of other more expensive and more profitable amps. The reason some Pathfinder 15Rs are selling (or at least people are asking) silly prices is because of their rarity.....if Vox offered something similar at a $300 price point, in sufficient quantities, I doubt there would be a big market. And like @Mike_LA said, they probably couldn't hit that $119 price ever again. I'm just grateful I've got my two. (and another one that needs work) ;)

The one I just picked up ( FB ad) an hour ago, just sounds great. Clear and loud.
It is newer than my other one, which has the black/diamond grille cloth.

This one is brown cloth, and pretty much new condition. Happy!

Ok so when I did a little more research to back up that claim I found your posts

    https://www.tdpri.com/threads/looki...-blue-anyone-using-one.1049307/#post-10114847

    https://www.tdpri.com/threads/how-broken-is-my-nad-vox-ac4.1082166/#post-10938179

So I see that you stand by your claim and still support it.

Would it be worth putting a switch instead of just clipping it?

I haven't had a chance to play it much yet.

Now that you have me thinking about it, I'm going to switch it out with the pathfinder in the living room.

It will get some play time there and I can decide if it's worth doing the mod in a reversible manner.

    Thnx

This looks like the main cap cut thread with schematic

I think I paid $120 for mine a couple years back. Nice amp, somewhat worthy of the hype, and it's the only amp I have with both tremolo and reverb. I'd get another one if it were similarly priced, and I'd pass if it were north of $150.

Oh, and I'd definitely sell mine in a flash if someone offered me $500 for it.

I'm intrigued. I have a P15r and like it for what it is, I don't rave about it, BUT I have long been intrigued, do the people that REALLY like them play anything but clean through them?

I noticed your post and thought you would be a good candidate to comment :)

For the record, while like the amp clean and especially the built-in reverb, to me, it gets a bit scratchy/harsh sounding at the early to mid crunch (classic Rock +) levels I tend to play at and thus rarely if ever use it.
