How do these amps compare to each other? Is the NT an AC4 plus thick Marshal tones? I played an AC4 with 12" cabinet and loved it. I was able to get chime and some nice dirt at tolerable volumes.

Also, does the Traynor Darkhorse get voxy el84tones?

I am looking for a low wattage poorman's Dr. Z

I've never played a Dr. Z amp or a Traynor, but here's my experience:

I played an AC4 combo (1x10, I think) and a Lil' night train side by side, and came home with the lil night train. They don't sound radically different, but the lil night train was easier for me to dial in sounds that I liked, and I thought the volume range was better for what I needed - a practice amp for my small studio apartment. I thought the AC4's tone lost a lot of it's, I dunno, appeal, when you played it at it's lower watt settings. It all depends on your tone settings, but the lil night train wants to be brighter than the AC4, and I thought has a little more of that chimey jangle vox is known for. Also the bright/fat switch on the lil night train is pretty useful, I play around with it a lot to get different sounds to match my mood.

That said, when I needed an amp for playing with the band I played an AC15C1 and the 15 watt night train, and came home with the AC...

I tried the VHT Special 6 (not sure if it's Ultra or not) this morning at a local GC. It was used one so I don't know if it got modded... However, it was no tone machine, if you're looking for Vox chimes and jangles. I have both the original 15-Watt NT and the 2-Watt Lil NT and they're the coolest Vox amps. I thought the VHT Special 6 sounded more Fenderish than Voxy.
