I received the Chainsaw in error today. Should've been the Drivetrain. I gave it a test run. It had a sweetness to the tone but did not have much gain on tap. I'm guessing that I received a return from someone & possibly a defective one. Still it had a good tone. Just not much gain.

edit - just listened to the clips online. Doesn't seem to be a huge amount of gain on tap there either. The pedal seems like a moderate OD pedal more than distortion to me. Again has some sweetness to it.

edit again - MF is letting me keep the Chainsaw & sending me a new Drivetrain! We'll see how well they work together. The Drivetrain seems to have more gain on tap.

Well after using the Chainsaw now for a couple more days I have to say I really like it! I'm going to leave it on all the time for a little goose and added sparkle with the gain around 9 o'clock. It just adds a little life to my overall sound. Again this is more of a mild OD and Chainsaw is NOT descriptive of what this pedal does. VS should really change the name....maybe Sweet & Mild. I'm using this with a Danelectro CC Distoriton. I really like the combination. The Chainsaw really makes up for the Dano's shortcomings IMO.
Also, I tried the Drivetrain as well. This pedal is nice too but has the mid-range hump that doesn't work for me.

I found it to be ODish in nature as well. I had tons of OD's already and was on a distortion quest so I took it back.

How's the build quality on these Garage Tone pedals?. Are they SMD construction or through-hole components?. They look pretty interesting, it's good to see that there are a lot of affordable pedals on the market now to experiment with. Many players (including me!) can't afford to go the boutique route, and there seems to be a lot of choices in cheaper stuff lately.
