Am getting ready to start a finish on raw birch sanded smooth and haven't used 2 part omni urethane in a few years. Can't recall what I used under it before, but am thinking of using the same sealer I use under nitro laq...cardinal vinyl sealer.
I will do a test piece first, but wondering if anyone can share any experience or advice.

Why? Maybe thin the first coat of urethane 10% if manufacturer instructions allow it.

Are you certain the adhesion properties you are perceiving are real? It does not make any difference in my experience besides when applying a finish on top of another finish . But not at all for raw wood.

I use 2 part automotive polyurethane for grainfiller/sealer/primer. Staying with the same “chemistry” is something I try to do.

I use 25% thinned poly as a sealer (usually three coats) under poly topcoats. You cannot get any better adhesion than that because it adheres from within the wood.
