I’ve been reading about vintage Vox AC30s, and was unsure if the it used an EF86 preamp tube or if all of them were 12AX7s.

I’m referring to the most highly sought after 60s classic Beatles, Queen type of model. Does anyone know for sure? I think Vox was changing between the two at some point but it’s not clear to me. Thanks!

There is a 'Vox Amps Archives' that you can Google that describes each amp and time line

Edit- Vox Showroom ( thanks Piotr)

Only the very earliest AC30s had the EF86 preamp channel. The tubes were too microphonic to be reliable with that much power and being in a combo. They went to the 12AX7 pretty early on so all of the Beatles and Brian May's AC30s have the 12AX7.

I have a 1962 fawn AC30 and it has the three 12AX7 channels.
