The vintage control cavity has a square end with smaller diameter corners compared to its modern equivalent (see the picture of my pink Esquire).

The Terry Downs PDF shows a 0.50-inch radius at both ends but the vintage control cavity is different.

Can someone in the know advise me of the radius?

    Thanks in advance. :)

Is this question the TDPRI equivalent of a Googlewhack (when a Google search returns no results)?

Is this the equivalent of the solder blob on the underside of vintage 'ashtray' covers?

Does no-one know the answer? :p

    Solder blob is easy!

    The square end is not.

How about innie or outie switch tip?

How about the radius of the headstock fall away above the nut?

So here's what I've come up with so far.

Using my template it's close to a British 5-pence piece which has an 11/16th inch diameter. :)

So, better question... Who is going to see the square end of the cavity under the control plate while you're playing the guitar?

What are you building? Can we see???

I'm in the middle of building a Nocaster, so I really am curious. I even put the correct diameter dowels in the correct spots on the back. Because I'm a dork.

Who's going to see it? Me, in my head. ;)

I've got two I'm working on. A 50s Esquire and black paisley 60s style.

I noticed the difference in the cavity when I dropped my template on a pre-cut body which needs the cavity control extending so decided to make a template with the correct vintage routings.
