Love Matt Guitar Murphy!!
My first trip to Chicago in 1994 on business, I went to Buddy Guy's Legends club and Matt was performing that evening... an amazing talent.
And funny, just 2 days ago I watched The Blues Brothers movie again, which is my all time favorite.
Matt is here tearing it up... a true legend, now 88 years old and still going strong.
Great movie, and maybe best scene.
Mrs. Murphy: We got two honkies out there dressed like Hasidic diamond merchants.
Matt Murphy: Say what?
Mrs. Murphy: They look like they're from the CIA, or somethin'.
Matt Murphy: What they want to eat?
Mrs. Murphy: The tall one wants white bread, toasted, dry, with nothin' on it.
Matt Murphy: Elwood.
Mrs. Murphy: And the other one wants four whole fried chickens and a Coke.
Matt Murphy: And Jake. Sheeit, the Blues Brothers!
I remember reading an interview with Stan Webb of Chicken Shack where he stated that
EC's Beano " innovations" were nothing more than EC imitating what MM had already done
a decade before.
Check out MM's tenure with the James Cotton Blues Band.
I love the Matt Murphy clip. I might like his eyebrow inflections even more than his awesome playing. Thanks for posting!
"Mrs. Murphy" = Aretha Franklin herself.
Good stuff. All of it.
Yeah, I thought that was great too.
I have 3 MM cds that are pretty good. The first probably my favorite on the Antones (sp?) label - related to the club in Austin). He had a stroke a number of years ago and I thought he had made some of recovery (?). I like Stan Webb and some of the Chicken Shack stuff.
