My wife and I are on vacation and headed to San Antonio tomorrow to stay in town for a day before we fly back home.

I'd like to check out some mom and pop style shops in town that would have some interesting vintage / consignment gear I could possibly take home as a memento for the trip.

Any suggestions on where to go? I'll probably only have enough time for 2-3 stops.

Check out the websites and see if there’s anything of interest:

I haven’t spent anytime in San Antone for maybe ten years, so I don’t have any current info.

Just north of Guitar Tex on McCullough before you get to the Valero. Those two are a driver and 9 iron from my house.

Space Tone is the only vintage gtr store in town. Do go there, for sure. Jason's store is PACKED with used and vintage Gibsons, Fenders and tube amps! If you do not see what you want, ask him. He will probably have it. I know they have a '66 Tele tucked away and i think they have just purchased a '68 maple neck I put a bid in for. Tell them John Breitler (Guitar Tech) sent you!

Guitar Tex is a very nice high end acoustic store. You might see a vintage Martin there. They are a Martin dealer. Tell John that Jaybird sent you!

Lark is a very high end retail music store. They are a Matchless dealer. High end Fenders and more.

Enjoy San Antonio and some GREAT TexMex food!!!

Thanks all, Spacetone it is. Got my eye on that Gibson Chet Atkins Tennesean already! Lark is unfortunately closed today, I would've loved to got my hands on that Heritage 535

I have been absolutely loving my time in Texas this last week. Got to see my best friend get married and have gained probably 10 lbs from the all the sausage kolaches and carne guisada.

We love San Antonio!
Unfortunately, I haven’t yet discovered the guitar store that I want to find there.
I went to Alamo music because I have seen YouTube videos they posted and recognized the store name. Nice folks for sure. Lots of high end pianos, not much guitar.
Sam Ash was fun, as I’d never been in one, but is what you’d expect from a megastore.

I don’t live there but I’ve had great experiences at Spacetone and Lark.

Come up this way and check out Austin Vintage.

Pro tip, don’t waste your time or money on TexMex on the river walk. Enjoy the feature but eat somewhere better.

Mission successful gents! Taking home this '78 Ibanez Artist. Thanks for all the help. Now if anyone knows a place where a fella could take a very patient and understanding wife for a romantic meal please let me know.

If you are still at Spacetone- turn left to the light- turn left onto Broadway- down on the left about 1/4 mile or so is La Mademoiselle (Ithink)/ It is French cusine/ French country in a very authentic building. I think your wife will appreciate this restaurant.

I am happy you found a guitar at Spacetone!!!

I love me our Czeck kolaches and TexMex carne guisada. You will gain weight living in or near San Antonio.
