I'm not entirely sure why exactly, but watching this kind of made me sad:
$55,000 for a '61 Strat with a replacement bridge pickup that looks like an Atrec you can buy for $15 online? I would take that deal. Probably not a real deal anyway.
I remember that episode. It made me wonder why no one asked if he still had the original bridge pickup. Yes, I'm a nerd.
What was the guitar used by Vic Flick for the James Bond Theme ?

The Clifford Essex Paragon De Luxe ?

It’s definitely not the fact he sold it that made me a bit sad. It’s the way.The $55K did more for Vic at this stage of his life than the Strat. In the end, it’s an instrument. It’s was tool used in his shop. Other than the history and sentiments that it has attached, it’s an object.
Gilmour sold his Black Strat, Martin D35, Martin 12 string among other items, and said as much.
I’m sure Mr. Flick got more enjoyment from the cash.
It’s similar to decisions that people on this forum make everyday. I’ve parted with many guitars over the years and, for some, it was a difficult decision. I will no doubt part with more. The guitars I have remaining are here because I couldn’t let them go but that will change at some point. C’est la vie.
Business does not have to be just about figures, especially when dealing with those kinds of things.
