Hello all, I've a question for you veteran soldermasters out there... I am in need of a replacement photocell/oscillator for my 1971 Twin's "vibrato" circuit, the little black beetle with a lamp in it. There's all kinds of people on the net saying they replaced theirs, but nowhere to actually BUY the things. If someone could point me to a supplier of these things I'd appreciate it.

Hmmm $26......If the OC failure is with the neon bulb, just cut the shrink wrap open, replace the bulb with a LED and re-shrink with the original photocell.

Oh, I just saw the words "vibrato oscillator " and it sent my mind into the gutter, nevermind.

True dat. I'm pretty far south in SK... When I order anything from the States it takes about 3-4 weeks on average.

Why not just build it yourself?

A neon lamp, a photocell, a piece of shrink tubing. They are not rocket engines. :) Just about two dollar's worth of goods, and ten minutes to assemble and test.

He'd still probably have to wait 3-4 weeks for the parts. ;)

Why "order" anything? Neon lamps are easily available at just about any hardware store. Just buy a lighted wall switch or old fashioned plug in night light. They both have neon lamps in them.

Photocells are easily available too. You can easily harvest one from an automatic nightlight.

Yard sales, flea markets and junktique shops are packed with these kinds of castoff technologies, usually for really cheap.

I have a replacement on the way, so no need to build (and thanks for the reccomendations everybody). I'm a big fan of doing work/improvising solutions on your own, and very often do, but in this case I'd rather be able to say it has the "proper replacement part" in it, for the sake of function and resale value.
