You just touched on my only complaint about my excelsior. Any chance you have a link to the knob?
There's a bunch of info in the Excelsior Thread in the Amp Owners Club section. I was able to do this mod myself without buying a kit. I think you just need a pot and a couple pcs of wire. It's also possible to add a footswitch for the Tremolo. Love my Excelsior and would consider buying another to mod even further. I'd like to see what it sounds like in a solid pine cabinet instead of the MDF (although I suspect it may not sound better).
Maybe one day, I'll buy a énd hand Vaporizer in blue or green...
I read so many mixed to bad advices about the Vaporizer, though.
I was given a broken Vaporizer as a tip for some repair work. I found the stock amp was a bit underwhelming, but after a few minor modifications it really came alive. The quirky reverb reminded me of some 60’s Gibson combos. I put it up in a local guitar shop and it sold in 24hrs...
I have the surf Excelsior. My have to look for a matching vaporizer
i have one of these. it's broken and i've just been using it as a stand for pedals and rack equipment. it did sound nice while it was working though.
nailed early Kinks tones.
I love mine - put in a pair of Sylvania 6V6 and a EH 12AY7 in V1. I like just the 3 inputs and do the tone adjustment on the guitar. When my son and his pals were over they couldn't get enough of the tremolo
