Vangelis Papathanassiou - RIP

Sad to read that Vangelis has passed, aged 79.

While I'm usually not the greatest fan of synth noodling, he did some epic soundtracks.

And of course, this was pretty epic too:

Bugger. Met him once when I was working for a fellow Greek mate of his. Seemed a top bloke.

No denying the man's body of work. Jeez, just Blade Runner.

An abiding childhood memory is racing my brother down the West Sands in St Andrews next to the R&A Old Course whilst on holiday.
It's where they filmed the famous beach scene in "Chariots of Fire".
The winner of the race would always sing the theme tune into the face of the loser.
I've Vangelis to thank for that, due to winning most of the races.

Knew him mostly through the Jon Anderson stuff, but he was a soundmaster.

Ahhhh I did not know, and am sorry to hear this. I am going to put some Vangelis now. I only have his album of themes from various movies and then the full Blade Runner album, but those are goin on.
