uBlock Origin is far better than AdBlock. AdBlock is dinosaur tech at this point.

And AdBlock sells its users out, not blocking certain ads if the advertiser pays enough.

I've used the ad-free option for several years, and it's always a little shock to my system after I (typically) ignore whatever warnings I've received and let the year lapse::::bingo! An unnavigable mess, but a few buttons and a $12 hit on the ol' debit card and I'm back in the saddle.

I have used Ad Blocker NOT AdBlocker for years and never get ads. It costs me 439.99 for two years and I can spend hours on the internet without troubl. I can listen to whole concerts without an ad. Hope this helps.

Lots and lots of reasons to upgrade having nothing to do with TDPRI. Both system protection and functionality have greatly increased in the past five years. Whatever protection your five year old browser gives has been figured out circumvented by advertisers, trackers and hackers about 4 years 10 months ago.

Vintage Telecasters are cooler than cool; vintage browsers not so much.

Another vote for Brave. I just use their built in ad blocker along with DuckDuckGo privacy extension. Zero pop-ups. Zero times getting redirected to someplace I don't want to go. Links I do click get blocked if going someplace else - for example, if I click a link for REI, a site I use often, but the actual link is routing through an advertising tracker website before getting to REI Brave will block it and show the actual address being used.

For ads, at most I sometimes see a block on the page with plain text saying the requested page (i.e. an ad) cannot be loaded.

All correct. I switched from AdBlock to uBlock Origin a year or two ago.

uBlock also provides a way to add premade lists of bad sites to block.

Never knew this--always wondered why people complained about ads haha
Honestly you guys, I don't have any of these problems. My Ad Blocker blocks out all ads. No need to change anything. I'm using the latest version of Firefox and I don't have anyone selling my information to anyone. I don't get rogue emails or adverts on the side bar or in between the posts. Also I can watch YouTube or anything else without ads. I don't know if you're using an older version but Ad Blocker eliminates all these. Try going to www.download.com which is cnet central now. But they try all the latest tech on the internet and it is all tested to be malware free. Most of this is free and pay. So you can to pick your battles but whatever works really good stick with it. I got the Ad Blocker from www.rentanadviser.com

Firefox + uBlock Origin + NoScript. There's a few sites that won't load properly with this mix, but most do. And no ads or popups, although I wouldn't mind the sex ads.

I've been getting the worse kind of spammy pop-ups and false malware infection alerts from this site and this site only. The idea that I should pay this site to prevent these pop-ups really rubs me the wrong way.

Check that your machine isn’t infected.

It's only with the TDPRI and other users are having the exact same experience. I did spyware and CCleaner scans and it didn't change anything. That said, it seems to have stopped today, so maybe somebody behind the scenes at the TDPRI took notice and did something about it.

Same here, Skully. I haven't visited any skeevy sites and TDPRI is the only place I'm getting malware popups. It stopped today (for whatever reason) but it was first concerning then annoying. And yes, my machine's clean.

I stay away from ad blockers and use iOS with DuckDuckGo app. Never a problem. You may want to also use 1.1.1.1 dns (Cloudflare, am internet security company with a now industry standard product). There's no helping android, unfortunately, and Windows 11 is a total disaster, but I've tried most of the other browsers very skeptically and none worked as well as DuckDuckGo. It's just a solid product.

One other thing, the major VPN provides (no names, but the "no log" ones with the big ad campaigns) are basically advertising networks. Happy to explain this if anyone wonders what i mean but I know this space and they are worse than browsing on the clearnet, ad wise and privacy wise. Try those two things (DNS and that browser app). Probably most importantly, regularly clear cookies and browser cache. Unfortunately the state of tracking has become to abominably nefarious that you will still 100% be tracked and your data will be hocked, but it helps.

Wouldn’t hurt to give the machine a scan.

Ha, I understand your comment. It's like the YouTube prepper channel dude warning of the apocalypse. Or more like when your buddy waiter friend warns you not to eat the food at his restaurant. Actually more like when the head surgeon at the local hospital won't send his mother there for care. No, a better way to say it is if you live in DC your IT buddy friend calls from a pay phone and whispers that congress and the executive branch of government are all being immediately flown to various undisclosed bunkers. No, jeez, I'm just not hittin the right metaphors today. I'd probably respond the same way. Well, maybe not exactly the same way for a few of those. The waiter metaphor maybe have me think twice. I dunno.

My machine is always current and this is the only site where I ever have an issue. I have to shut that page down and re-launch; a minor inconvenience.
