Using an “Amp in a Box” into the amp it emulates?

Sure. Substitute "overdrive" for the AIAB that it is marketed as and it will be fine. Higher level, lower gain to push the amp. Lower level, higher gain to get more of the drive from the pedal. An excellent way to make your amp much more versatile at the stomp of a switch.

    How about:

Formula #5 -> Red Llama -> Quilter 101 Mini, tweed voice -> FX loop out -> 5E3

More details on the new Vox pedals: https://voxamps.com/product/mystic-edge/

Vox does call the display "an oscilloscope, a visual indication of how the waveform is affected by the knob settings." Looks similar to the scope on recent synths from Vox's owner, Korg:[IMG]

Are these pedals an attempt to emulate the ( OD/dirt) sounds of certain well- known VOX users? ( just curious, from a few of the names)

    Oh yeah huh.

    Did just notice that.

That may be a coincidence. For sure they are preamps trying to emulate certain amps.....

Yeah I mentioned them already so need to be sneaky about it lol.

No, it's an oscilloscope (or digital facsimile thereof), although for the life of me, I don't know what useful purpose it serves other than looking cool.

Whatever you do, don't plug it into the fx loop.

It's like the VU meters in the MV50 amps - no real useful purpose in those, either, IMO.

I could certainly be wrong, but all of the pictures on the Vox website show waveforms in the pedal display, not any kind of volume meter. Frankly a VU meter would be marginally more useful. In any event, wish that Vox had saved the money spent installing a useless display to simply lowering the pedal price.

I meant that neither the VU meters on the amps, nor the waveform displays on the pedals, are IMO useful.

Something I liked about older Vox stuff was a lack of gimmicks. As good as the MV50 amps sound, the real estate used for the VU meter on the front panel could have been used for something else. The on/off switch on the back is a tiny little slider thing - would have been better to put it on the front, in the space taken up by the VU meter.

Frankly, the waveform display on the pedals is a big turnoff for me, and even if it doesn't increase the price by much, the pedals would have to sound really good for me to look beyond the gimmicky display.

Did you ever check out the chrome/black Vox Valvetone 810 and Similar Vox Distortion from the '90's?

I had the Valvetone which had a good grind, but a terrible sweep on Tone knob- NO low end, or ALL low end
