...feels akin to what I imagine the sensation of being waterboarded must be like.

    Still fighting the allergies o_O

I thought the top of my head was going to come off and sadly it didn’t.

No, no, it should literally have no sensation at all. It all depends on the water temperature. Too hot or too cold, it's sorta painful. Get it just right, you don't even feel it.

I severely broke my nose in football and went through mega pain to have it straightened, so I'm deathly afraid of the Neti pot. However, my step-daughter, the health department nurse, swears by one and uses it often.

So, it probably is a good thing, but I'm just not going there.

Hey, I think I said that just the other day about lap steels.:p

I've never tried the neti pot, but I use the spray bottle. I like to blast the stuff out. I use it after mowing the yard mostly. I have a very dusty yard, and get all kinds of crap up my nose. This cleans it all out.

As a side note - be really careful with whatever fluid you use. There are bacteria present in many municipal systems that aren't harmful *if swallowed* (due to saliva and/or stomach acid) but can be quite dangerous if absorbed through the mucous membranes of your nose.

Some years ago, I made my own out of a mustard squeeze bottle:

I can't remember what ailment led to it, but it worked.

Neti pot don't work too well for me on account of having a deviated septum. There is a brand of spray salones that uses a special nozzle that does work and it helps me tremendously with allergies which is basically all the time here in SA.

You really should get instructions before using one of those pots.

I don't believe naegleria fowleri is in "many" municipal systems, but sometimes it's in well water and warm, still ponds etc. Pretty rare to get infected. I use the neti occasionally and they work great. First few times seemed odd, but now it's easy. As someone said, key thing is having it slightly warm. Not too hot or too cold, as Goldilocks would say.

That thing scares me. Afraid it would suck what's left of my brain out!
