Experimented today. Think it solves more problems than it creates.

Does anyone know where I can get backing tracks? Or how I can modify tracks to get the vocals out? Or any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Search 'backing tracks'... there are endless ones on Youtube.

You can extract the audio from a Youtube video backing track using sites like keepvid but you might be straying into dubious legal territory taking some stuff offline.

I also still use midifiles a lot for crafting practice or rehearsal backing tracks. If you have software like GarageBand you can import the midifile, mix and remove parts and export to a file for the RC-3. Good if you just need bass, drums and maybe keyboard parts.

I also found a great iPad app called SweetMidi that plays, mixes and exports midifiles as audio. I created a full collection of our bands set list in a couple of hours with that. Great for practices and rehearsals if a member can't make it.

What PC, tablet, software are you using currently? I assume you can already create the WAV files.

There are some software tools that can make an attempt to remove or reduce the vocal parts in a recording but I'm not too impressed by what I've heard.

I'd looked at the YouTube option. I want something at least plausibly dubious ;). Plus the conversion from YouTube to MP3 to .wav is time consuming.

Having said all that those leads are marvellous. Thank you!

Ps. I'm using a Mac with audacity to convert the .wav

One other tip I would give is to compare the levels of a backing track with that of a guitar recorded loop. Try to match them, even if you feel like you're cutting the backing track down too much. Last thing you want is to be twisting the backing level knob around all the time.
