Doug is my name and I like strumming guitars, so dougstrum seems like a logical choice
My name is mike
Back in the skateboard days of Jim red dog Muir , Tony Mad Dog Alva , Doug Pineapple Saladino, I was Eskimo.
Close as I ever came to those legends!
For me....if I see someone has signed off from a post with their real name I do try to remember to refer to it in the future.
The username I chose (chulaivet1966) would only make sense to a very few here (or on any forum) which is why I chose it.
I go by Wayne.
My wife sometimes calls me different names which I can't post here.
Carry on....a good day to all.
When my son was 3 he invented an imaginary gang of monsters whose leader was called Crashbelt so............
My son's 22 now - where did the time go!!
I chose the name Flip G after months of browsing this forum. On the day I joined, I'd been looking for advice about getting the correct intonation on the Epiphone Dot featured in my profile pic. The damn G string had always been sharp. Someone, somewhere suggested taking apart the tune-o-matic bridge and flipping the offending saddle from an upward to a downward facing position. Doing so would give me an extra millimetre or so of string length. Well, I did, and it did! So thank you, whoever that was. I named myself Flip G in your honor.
This guy and a few dozen others gave me my user name. So there's no versus involved.
My user name is just my given name with a few extra letters. Nothin' very clever or deep...kinda like me.
I never thought about this before. There are aseveral members here who I have met personally, or exchanged with extensively. We are on a first-name basis, just through our connection.
But it's true what you say: everybody chooses a username and gets stuck with it.
I signed up on this forum way back in the 90's. When I was asked for a username, I had no idea what to use. So I used my standard signature. And my then-current driver's license photo.
I think it would be nice to add a line of information on the left panel which would include the users normal name among friends.
Famous girl down here called G-Flip
Mine comes from a Honda paint color that was available on the early Honda Mini-Trails: Mexican yellow. I used to frequent a minibike forum when I was big into fixing Honda 50s for awhile, and my own bike was a ‘71 Mexican yellow Z-50, so...
As it happens, while I was US-born and am of Scotch/Welsh/German descent, I did live in central Mexico for a fee years as a kid, and am kind of dark completed, which confuses people when my time in Mexico comes up in conversation.
Anyhow...I never minded when other posters would refer to me as “Mex” or “Mexi.”
I have a 24 track mind , multiple personalities , and i snore, ( no I dont , yes I do , no I dont) Oh right you had to ask! thanks alot!
oh im absent minded...forgot to add...when you were kicked out of the room...you had to wait 2 or 3 minutes before you could go back in...but if you made a new name you get back in as fast as you can type in a new user name
Just my initials and a number assigned in college, presumably to distinguish me from the 21 folks with the same initials who preceded me.
If I wanted people to use my name it would be right there under my avatar.
Using an alias on a webforum isn't paranoia, it's common sense. So is using a location that doesn't tie you to a definite geographical area.
If nothing else, there are a lot of doxxers out there.
So, I don't even use my usual user ID
My initials and the year I was born. Yeah, I know, not too original. I like to keep things simple.
Larry... "You can call me Al"
I used my nickname in the early days of AOL, but switched to my real name after a few years.
It keeps me honest and well behaved.

When I first started signing on to forums I used the name "Spyke", which was an inside joke not worth explaining. Then late one night I was signing on to yet another forum, but "Spyke" was already taken. As I sat there trying to think of a new name, my dog Desmo walked into the room and there it was. (I commonly add "dog" to the end of a dog's name. "Where's the AbbeyDog?" "Hi, DesmoDog!" "OllieDog! How's it going?" I don't know why) Turned out I liked that better than Spyke so it's been the name I've used on pretty much every forum since, including an Aprilia and a Moto Guzzi forum.
When Desmo was nearing end of life I thought maybe I should stop using his name. I joined a Gretsch forum with my first name and last initial... didn't like it, so DesmoDog it is. Except for when the name is already in use (yes, it's happened at least once) in which case I go with DezmoDog...
And now you know much more about it than you ever cared to.
(FWIW my real first name is in my sig line on virtually all forums)
